CLASS TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
A / Job purpose / To plan and organise the teaching and learning of pupils within the class.
To plan and organise the teaching and learning of the subject and to contribute to the development, management and review of the school as a whole.
B / Accountable / To the senior leadership for the effective discharge of all duties.
For the effective delivery of high quality teaching, learning and support of the school’s pupil progress.
For the impact on the educational progress of pupils.
For the raising of standards to a high level and maintaining them and monitoring of numerical targets in the subject.
C / Responsibilities:
1. Subject review and development / a)  Plan, provide and evaluate the service to pupils in the school.
b)  Prepare the priorities for the subject improvement plan and review progress and future needs.
c)  Provide evidence of pupil progress towards individual targets and analysis of data to meet school needs.
d)  Lead subject team meetings within directed time and keep appropriate records of such meetings.
2. Curriculum / a)  Plan lessons using the schemes of work.
b)  Prepare materials and resources to deliver the curriculum
effectively (including clearly identified aims and objectives
which are shared with the children).
c)  Be responsible for teaching and learning and the selection of
suitable materials. This includes the selection and provision of appropriate resources and strategies for SEND pupils and for gifted pupils and groups of pupils.
d)  Contribute to the annual review of the curriculum and advise senior leadership in preparation for the next academic year.
e)  Implement whole school initiatives that reflect the school’s key priorities.
3.Student assessment, reporting and support / a)  Ensure the efficient administration of student assessment and feedback, consistent with the teaching and learning policy of the school.
b)  Maintain pupil progress data electronically, its analysis and development of numerical target setting. Report findings and subsequent improvement strategies to the curriculum coordinator.
c)  Ensure the identification of children who are experiencing difficulties and that effective support is provided.
d)  Identify children who are gifted and talented within any curriculum area and ensure teachers are aware of additional needs and support to be given.
4 Finance and resource management / a)  Ensure regular audits, in liaison with support staff, of the school's resources: oversee appropriate usage, storage and security of equipment and software and maintenance of a stock book.
b)  Identify and purchase resources from the subject budget.
5. Personnel / a)  Ensure that appropriate subject induction for trainee teachers is carried out and support provided.
b)  Support the school’s performance management policy as appropriate.
c)  Contribute to the support, career development, professional development and training of members of the team, teaching assistants (learning) and visiting student teachers.
d)  Support cover teachers when a member of the team is absent (including ensuring that appropriate work is set).
e)  Ensure adherence to school policy regarding relevant health and safety regulations and report any concerns to the H&S Officer.
6. Liaison / a) Maintain links with pyramid schools and outside agencies to
ensure curriculum continuity.
b) Provide information to parents, governors and colleagues
about the work of the school and the progress of pupils.
c) Participation in liaison activities with pupils and parents.
d) Awareness of equal opportunities and relevant policies.
e)  Promote the school by providing information for the school’s website.
