Safe Journey receives gift from Rochester Area Community Foundation

Funds will be used to support domestic violence survivors as they transition
to lives free from abuse and violence

Fairport, N.Y., March 29, 2011–Safe Journey, a suburban-based resource and support center serving domestic violence victims has received a $10,000 grant from the Rochester Area Community Foundation Women and Girls Project for its Survivor Transition Program. The gift will be used to provide women from the greater Rochester area with individual counseling, support groups, life skills training, crisis phone support, and more as they rebuild their lives after abuse or violence.

“Despite commonly held beliefs, domestic violence ravages families in every income bracket and breaking the cycles of abuse or violence takes time and effort,” said Alli O’Malley, executive director of Safe Journey. “Too often observers of domestic violence believe that abuse ends as soon as a couple stops living together or dating; but in reality the dynamics of power and control often continue for years -- particularly when children are involved.”

Safe Journey is an outreach ministry of the Ecumenical Ministries of Perinton, Inc. Our mission is to support today’s survivors of domestic violence as they transition to lives free from abuse and to prevent domestic violence in future generations through outreach and education.Services at Safe Journey are provided free of charge to women of any faith, race or creed.
