Brave New World Project—Create Your Own Utopia
Overview: As an extensionof the novel Brave New World, you will be creating a "utopian" society with a partner. The society presented in our story is a fictional account of a futuristic totalitarian community that has arisenmany years after the devastation of the "9 Years War," almostwiped out Earth and allhumanity. YOUR society does not have to start this way. This is your opportunity to be creative!
Assignment: It is 2540 A.D. and you have been selected to apply to be one of the new World Controllers. In order to secure the job, you must design a society that will meet the basic needs of its members while maintaining order. You must determine what to do with dissidents; how information will be disseminated; how you will keep their citizens in their proper places; what occupations your citizens will have; how citizens' basic needs for food, shelter, clean air and water, medical care, clothing, etc. will be met; and whether or not (and how) you will control the size of the population. You must persuade the committee that selected you that your utopia will work so that your ideas will be implemented and you will be selected for the job.
