Branchburg - Bridgewater Softball

1st and 2nd Grade Division

ASA Rules apply:

Coaches

1.  All coaches must be Rutgers-Certified to be allowed to coach

2.  Parents who are not certified are not allowed on the field - kids not playing softball are also not allowed on the field during practices & games.

Players:

1.  Only players registered in the recreation program may play in the games. No substitute players are allowed at any time - this includes brothers or sisters of players. There are no exceptions to this rule at any time during the season.

2.  All players will bat, regardless if they are playing the field or not. All players in attendance at the game when it starts will be in a continuous batting order. Anyone arriving after the start of the game will be placed at the end of the line-up.

Equipment:

1.  Only equipment approved for use by the Softball League shall be used in practices, clinics or games. All helmets must have a face mask

2.  Sneakers or rubber cleats may be worn

3.  Uniforms will be worn at all games

4.  Visors will be worn at games

5.  Only ASA approved bats may be used

6.  Only approved T’s may be used

Field:

1.  Base paths should measure 45 feet.

2.  Pitching rubber should measure 30 feet from the back of home plate.

Pitching:

First 6 Played Games:

1.  The coach will pitch to their own team.

2.  The catcher will be a coach from the team that is hitting.

3.  Every girl in the lineup will bat each inning

4.  There are no outs during the first six games

5.  Each girl will advance one base at a time.

6.  After the last batter in each inning hits, all the base runners will run home.

Starting with the 7th Game Played:

1.  The teams will start playing real games.

2.  Each team will have three outs per inning.

3.  The 3 out / 5 run rule is in effect per inning, meaning that after 3 outs or 5 runs, the inning will be over.

4.  The coaches will continue to pitch to all batters.

5.  After four swinging strikes, the batter will be out. There will be no walks or called strike-outs. After the third swinging strike, each batter will be asked if she wants to hit off the tee or be pitched to.

Starting with the 11th Game Played:

1.  After three swinging strikes, the batter will be out.

Game:

1.  Maximum of 10 players on the field for defense.

2.  Outfielders are to be placed on or beyond 15 feet from the bases. Don’t position players to appear to have 2 sets of infielders.

3.  Players should be rotated to different positions in the field so they can learn all positions.

4.  No advances on over throws to 1st and 3rd bases.

5.  Hard hits through the infield or on a fly into the outfield can be converted into doubles at the hitter’s risk. Base runners can also advance two bases.

6.  No warm up swings outside the batters box.

7.  No new innings to start after 8:00pm

8.  In the event a team is short on players, players from the other team can be shared as needed to allow the game to proceed.

9.  GOOD SPORTMANSHIP IS EXPECTED AND SHOULD BE STRESSED AT ALL TIMES BY COACHES, PLAYERS, & SPECTACTORS!
