Board Meeting Minutes

18th April 2011

Held at the Kings Meadows Bowls Club

President Tony Benneworth opened the Board Meeting at 6.26pm.

Present:

Business arising from previous minutes

Mixed Pennant proposal for next season has been withdrawn; a letter is to be circulated to all clubs.

Correspondence - list of inward & outward circulated

Letter tabled from Cressy Bowls Club (A. Dodge) and read.

Letter tabled and read from Women’s Section in response to A. Dodge’s letter, the Board fully supports the Women’s Section in their findings.

The letter to Examiner was to question the limited coverage for Women championship etc in the North.

St. Helens letter – financial support requested for a junior who has attended development training & selection. –Request declined & a letter to be written to St. Helens.

Treasurer’s Report

Margaret Turnerdistributed copies and explained herreport.

Reports:

Men’s Sectionby Rob Panton:

A successful year was accomplished with the new pennant structure.

Northern Finals –the country clubs were more successful than the town clubs.

State pennant winners – Cressy, Kings Meadows & North Launceston.

Women’s SectionbyIsabel McLelland

The starting time for women’s pennant next season is to remain the same.

The sub-committee’s new structure for Women’s Pennant was presented but the BN Board has deferred any changes until to the season 2012-2013.

Bowls Tasmania Champion of Champion Triples winners were Chris Oliver, Carol Holloway and Margaret Campbell.

Coaches/Umpiresby Joyce Shaw

No meetings have been held due to Umpires being required at Northern & State Pennant Finals.

President Tony presented the idea of a member from the Umpires committee e.g. Chairman be invited to participate in conversation(without a voting right) at the Bowls North Board meetings. All Board members agreed.

MPIO by Veronica Fellows

Veronica is to converse with Sport & Rec in relation to change the date of the Complaints Resolution for Clubs Workshop.

Veronica read a letter from the NWTWBA regarding State Finals being played in the North – referred to Bowls Tasmania with Bowls North’s endorsement.

Marketing / Publicity:

Lyn reported that she is taking a 4½ month break for writing her column.

No club visits requested.

Junior & Youth:Rob Panton

Tony Benneworth congratulated Rob, Brenda& their committee for their enthusiasm and commitment to the BN Junior & Youth development.

Policy/Procedures/By Laws:

Policies are to be completed over the break.

Bowls Tasmania

Events Committee meeting to collate the 2011-2012 Calendar of Events is being held on the 2nd May 2011.

General Business:

  • Ray Boutcher queried why Bowls North use the National ID number on the Result Form and neither of the two other regions do. A double check for Statistician – referred to Bowls Tas.
  • Brenda Jones – clearances - not available until the AGM (22nd May 2011). Fee will be $10.
  • Margaret Turner – BT Meals cost and what are clubs to cater next seasone.g. 2 course meals, bread rolls/sandwiches - referred to BT.
  • Margaret Turner questioned why the Women’s Northern squad are paying a $5 fee for each practice. No fee has been charged for practice by the host club.
  • Tony Benneworth – clubs hosting Finals events make a huge profit, suggested that a fee be charged to the host club and a pro-rata be distributed between all clubs.
  • Outcome: The best greens are to be used for championships and the clubs that host these games put in a huge effort to have their greens in top conditions therefore the club earns the right to host these events fee free.
  • Gaylene McNab – reported the comments of disappointment in the BT Badge, which was presented to the winners of the State Pennant.
  • Isabel McLelland - apology for the BN AGM.
  • Scrutineers for Bowls North AGM to be held on the 22nd May 2011 are Lyn Mitchell, Ray Boutcher and John Webb.

The next meeting will be held on Sunday 22ndMay2011after the AGM at the Kings Meadows Bowls Club
