NCEC Governing Board Meeting

Administrators Present;Mike McNeff (Rugby), Steve Heim (Anamoose/Drake), Don Davis (St John), John Gruenberg (Westhope),Dan Stutlien (Harvey), and Arlen Fylling (MLS), andJason Kersten (BHS)

Also present: Cynthia Jelleberg, Mandy McNeff, Shelly Hoerer (NCEC Staff), and Kayla O’Toole (DCB)

The meeting was chaired by Mike McNeff.

Minutes:

Steve Heim made a motion to approve the March 2017 minutes seconded by John Gruenberg.

NCEC Budget:

Revenue balance sheet was presented and discussed. Projections are still on track. Jason Kerstenmadethe motion to approve the March 2017budget report, seconded byDon Davis. The motion wasapproved.

NCEC Staff Reports:

NCEC staff presented their monthly reports (summary of reports included in the meeting packet).

Aimee Erdman: Aimee was absent today.

Mandy: Discussed the 2017 Middle School Career Fair that was held in March. 225 students attended almost double the number in attendance from last year. The day was a success. Jason Kersten mentioned that Newburg students are usually unable to come due to the conflicting date with a Music Competition. We will look at next year’s date to see if we can work around this. Mandy (and Aimee) also has been finishing up with workkeys testing and has two dates scheduled in April for TSS training (St Anns and Bottineau Public).

Shelly: Water Festival update: 270 students are signed up. 100 more than last year! Shelly will be working on UND credit for those who participated in PD – this will be due mid may. Shelly gave an update on Jan 15th PD day. She asked for review and input of the schedule she has created for the day. She also discussed the idea of rotating the principal PLC next year. This could also include an observation in the mornings at the school and then do the PLC in the afternoon. Update on Steve Dunn Writing Workshop for next year: 2nd and 3rd grade dates are locked down for next year. Funding for this was discussed.

Cynthia: Succeed 2020 has $8000 extra dollars. NCEC staff would like to put this towards Steve Dunn for upper level grades. This was discussed. Staff evaluations have been completed. Cynthia gave an update on the new dome and programs. She also gave an update on 21st programming. Funding lasts till August and then we don’t know what will happen with 21st programming. Teacher Center – no funding HB1013. FHI360 is running a pilot program to come up with a CCRC handbook and they want it tested in a few schools ($10,000) funding tied to this. Aimeeand Cynthia will attend this meeting to get more details. FHI 360 would also like volunteers from the REAs to attend the National AASE conference to talk about the Succeed 2020 grant. Succeed 2020 money will go till the end of the first week of October. Cynthia inquired if we could pay salaries with the remaining funds until 1st week of October. She was told yes.

Other:

Various legislative bills were discussed.
