Fire Prevention

Both 5th Grade Camp Bernie trips took place this past month. Once again, despite early predictions of rain for both groups, we experienced great weather conditions. For the first time, some of our students experienced archery as one of their sessions. I’m happy to report that all returned home unscathed by any errant arrows. Overall, the entire 5th grade received compliments as to how well-mannered and behaved they were. Thanks so much to all of the teachers and parent chaperones who shared the experience with us. We couldn’t have done it without you.

The question of the month was whether we would be able to provide our Kindergartners with their Pony/Petting Zoo/Pumpkin Patch experience on site. Thanks to our new Facilities Manager, Sally Campbell, an area of the parking lot was roped off and designated the perfect “bucolic” setting for their in-house field trip. Thanks to our CRT, Lynn Scherer, who facilitated the adventure.

We ended the month with our Annual Halloween Parade. Once again, a new route had to be established to ensure the safety of all of our trick-or-treaters. Walking around the Church kept marchers safely on an all-sidewalk path, and allowed parents/friends/family to view the procession from several different vantage points. Moving into the gym, children in grades 3-5 created path for all students in grades 4 and 5 to walkthrough, allowing everyone to see the various costumes on display.

Throughout the month, the weather cooperated for every single event, I hope Mother Nature’s pattern of behavior continues throughout the rest of the year.

As we get ready for Thanksgiving, the James Monroe community continues to show its gratitude by conducting a food drive and fundraiser for Hands of Hope, as well as reorganizing the many supplies sent our way and distributing to homeless shelters and others in need.

In addition, we will be designating one day a month to continue gathering donations for the food bank at St. Cecilia’s. It is the perfect month for us to show how GRATEFUL we are for our spacious school.

I hope to see all of you during conferences and our first Family Reading Event on Nov. 13th. Of course, the excitement is building throughout the building as we get closer to Nov. 21st and the production of A Little Mermaid.

Happy Grateful, Thanksgiving to all!

Sincerely,

Lynda Zapoticzny
