BOSTON GLOBE screws the pooch then apologizes.

Pictures provided by The Nation of Islam to Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner and Sadiki Kambon, director of the BlackCommunityInformationCenter, turned out to be from an internet Porn Site. The Globe published the pics without verification. Other Boston Newspapers did not publish these pictures due to the inability to verify the authenticity. The Globe is owned by the New York Times (big surprise). Word is, the Times bosses are livid. I love it.
Here's a link.

AN EMOTIONAL RESPONSE

I watched the entire video today of Nick Berg being brutally murdered and it stirred up a lot in me. First was anger. One of the terrorists was standing up there reading something in Arabic and then all of a sudden he pulls out a huge knife, knocked the young American down on his side and began to saw off his head. For what seemed like a very long time all you could hear was him screaming while about 5 or 6 other men held Mr. Berg down. The actual decapitation happened when they sawed through his vertebrae. I believe this man was alive until the very last second. Then they picked up the head and held it up in the air.
Like I said, I felt a lot of anger and sadness. I believe that this video needs to be made available to us as the general public so that all can see the unbelievable and intolerable cruelty that these evil bastards are inflicting upon our men and women.
Revenge for the prison abuse, my ass. They do this kind of shit and get off on it. I think we should bomb the whole lot of them. I don't give a fuck about the welfare of those shitheads. They can all rot in hell for all I care.

It Blew Just Like Old Faithful

Our deli had to close just now because the cappachino machine blew up. The thing made a huge noise and then bam... hot water went everywhere. I'm glad I wasn't standing next to the thing.

Discounted Pizza

Domino's Pizza is about to settle a lawsuit that was filed because the company was advertising free delivery, but charging customers more than a carry out order would cost. The settlement, if reached, will be for $20.8 million in coupons! The attorneys will actually get cash, but the customers will get coupons. I am waiting to see if there will be free pizzas or if the coupons will just be the normal discount coupons that come on the box of pizza.
More here.
In other news, butter flavoring vapors in popcorn has been linked to a rare lung disease in workers. Another lawsuit is about to be settled regarding this problem.

Question Of The Day:

It seems that CBS and other media outlets that broke the prisoner abuse story while we were still at war is similar to broadcasting the date of the Normandy invasion in WWII. The later would have cost the lives of thousands of our forces. By not using discretion and making a move that clearly agitated the enemy, did CBS and other media outlets kill Nick Berg directly or indirectly?

Nervy Napper

By Ashley Broughton -- The Salt Lake Tribune
A man took a nap while parked in an Orem intersection, then decided to make himself at home in someone else's house, authorities said.
Officers responded about 6 p.m. to call regarding a vehicle parked in the intersection at 400 S. Palisade Drive, said police Lt. Doug Edwards. "The car had been there for an hour and the driver appeared to be unconscious, but he wasn't -- he was just taking a nap."
The 64-year-old Murray man told police he was waiting for a friend to meet him at the intersection and thought he would nap while waiting. But when police asked him repeatedly to move his car, he refused, Edwards said -- even after being issued a parking ticket.
Police called a tow truck to move the car, and the man got out and sat on the curb, Edwards said. While they were waiting for the tow, officers were speaking with a nearby resident, he said.
About the time the tow truck arrived, the man got up, walked down the street and into the home that belonged to the resident speaking with officers, Edwards said.
Police and the home's owner went in, he said, and found the man sitting on the couch "with his feet on the coffee table." He refused to leave when asked, Edwards said, and asked the homeowner to turn on the television for him.
"Enough was enough," Edwards said. "The man was arrested for trespassing." Even so, he said, officers had to carry the man out to put him in a patrol car.
The man was booked into a holding cell, Edwards said, and his car was towed. Police are mystified by the man's behavior.

Binladin GROUP MIGHT BUILD WORLDS TALLEST BUILDING

The Binladin Group has been short listed to build the worlds tallest building. It is scheduled to be completed in 2008. I figure by that time we should have some drones big enough to fly into it and knock it the fuck down.

Video Voyeurism

There are many legitimate uses for cellular phones with picture taking capabilities. Real estate agents are using picture phones to show perspective buyers homes that are just coming available on the market, some women are using their picture phones to show new hair styles they want to have to their beauticians, doctors are using them to send pictures of xrays to other doctors for a second opinion, even buyers at auctions are using the phones to send shots of items up for bid to their clients. Today, however, the new cellular phones that are capable of picture taking and immediate posting to websites are getting some flack as Congress is looking at 'Video Voyeurism'.
JESSE J. HOLLAND, Associated Press, writes: Cell phone cameras are useful for the unusual moment that demands a picture, like when a congressional aide pulled one out of a pocket to get a snapshot of Michael Jackson strolling the halls of Congress.
Some people, however, are using them for nefarious purposes, such as taking pictures beneath women's skirts and posting them on the Internet. Lawmakers want to make taking such surreptitious photos and other illicit uses of video technology a federal crime punishable by up to a year in jail.
"No one should have to go through the embarrassment of being secretly taped by an electronic peeping Tom, or seeing those pictures turn up on the Internet," said Rep. Mike Oxley, R-Ohio, a former FBI agent who is an advocate for the bill.
While there are no official studies on the intrusive use of camera phones, lawmakers and anti-crime advocates say "video voyeurism" is a serious crime that deserves a serious response by the government.
Simple voyeurism, secretly photographing or videotaping someone in a compromising position or in a private place, already is against the law in most states. The proliferation of tiny cellular telephones that can take pictures silently has facilitated the taking of illicit photos in public places such as grocery stores, sidewalks and restaurants.
In December, a Sammamish, Wash., man pleaded innocent to a charge of voyeurism after being accused of using a cellular telephone camera to take photographs up a woman's skirt. Jack Le Vu, 20, was released on $25,000 bail.
A witness told investigators the man pretended to scan a grocery store's shelves as he followed a 26-year-old woman in a supermarket. He periodically crouched with his camera phone extended beneath her skirt and snapped photos.
The bill before Congress would make it illegal to videotape, photograph, film, broadcast or record a naked person or someone in underwear anyplace where a "reasonable person would believe that he or she could disrobe in privacy."
The legislation also would make it illegal to sneak photos of a person's "private parts" when "their private parts would not be visible to the public, regardless of whether that person is in a public or private area."
A person convicted under the law could face a fine and as much as a year in jail.
The bill passed the Senate by voice vote without dissent. The House Judiciary Committee is expected to consider it before the August recess.

Which Came First?

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against the headboard smoking a cigarette, with a satisfied smile on its face.
The egg, looking a bit pissed off, grabs the sheet, rolls over, and says, "Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question."

Beware - Hindu Women in VW's!

This is going to sound jaded, but it is not.
This morning on the way to work, my life was threatened several times by Hindu women driving Volkswagen Passats. All three were wearing head scarves or had dots or jewelry in the middle of their foreheads and were driving their little German sedans like crap. You could barely see them over the steering wheel. One was going ten miles an hour under the speed limit in heavy traffic. The next one was yelling at something and was swerving all over the road. The Third one thought she was Dale Earnhardt or something, cause she was gassin and passin, occasionally using her signals, but mostly just making wild ass lane changes for no apparent reason. I saw the third one almost cause three or four accidents, one of which involved the car directly in front of me which had to lock up it's brakes in an effort to avoid the crazed Hindu woman in the purple Passat who had decided at the last minute that she couldn't fit her car into the space in front of the person in front of me. Of course, as soon as the car in front of me skidded a few feet (nearly causing me to rear end them) then she could make her way over into our lane. She stayed there for all of about two seconds, before deciding, apparently, that her original lane was a better place to be and swerved right back over. She made these maneuvers using only her rear view mirror, never once looking over her shoulder or checking to see if it was safe.
Despite it all, I made it and am now hard at work.

Hmmm.. is this good?

A new acquaintance recently described my as a Disney character without the fur. I guess this a good thing since I had everyone rolling on the floor in laughter. It is far better than the derogatory names I am called on a daily basis while at work and even at home on occasion. How would you decribed your personality?

The Carpenter's Fishing Weekend

My carpenter party pals went on the yearly company fishing trip this weekend. Theyworked a half day on Friday and left at noon for the lake where a rental house, steaks, plenty of beer, and poker playing were waiting on them. The morning didn't go so well for two of my friends. Daryl was at the boss' farm mowing a field when the tractor ran out of gas so he jumped in his truck and went to the shop to get some gas. As he was heading back to the tractor, Chip, another carpenter was heading to the shop to get a concrete saw. Chip saw a white vehicle on his side of the road and slammed on his brakes, skidding on the gravel road about ten feet before slamming nearly head on into Daryl's truck. The impact pushed Daryl's truck off the road and into a fence and Chip's truck ended up on the other side of the road. Daryl was slightly injured, mostly from the airbag going off and Chip was not hurt at all. The two got into an argument about whose fault the wreck was and Daryl called the boss who came and listened to them argue for a few minutes before calling the highway patrol who issued Daryl a ticket for being on the wrong side of the road and Chip for no insurance. Both trucks are totalled and I am now hauling two additional people to the job site. This was just the beginning of the fishing trip. Mike borrowed my ultralight fishing pole and it came back to me snapped in half. Steve got a $100 bill and that was quickly spent when he and the boss parked their trucks in the wrong spot at the boat launch and were given $75 tickets each for parking in the wrong place. No one brought any fish back, they were all too small to keep. I hope next year the trip goes without any problems.

THINGS THAT MAKES YOU GO...WTF

In 1996 Bill Clinton signed and Executive Order stating that any company with a government contract that gets caught scamming the system will be banned from any more contracts for no less than 3 years. With all the scamming that Halliburton is doing I find one little peice of news very fucked up. Even after Halliburton got caught scamming US taxpayers the Shrub decided that that wasn't enough. You see, that Order prevented Halliburton from any new contracts, so Bush did what he does best, he nixed the Order with one of his own. He did it the DAY before Halliburton got its second contract. So instead of holding them accountable like any normal person would, he change the law to help out his buddies. Bush has spent A LOT of time talking about Corporate accountability, but I guess that doesn't apply to his friends. WTF.

How about a little accountability-FOR ONCE

As an American with fiscally conservative views, I am just waiting for heads to roll. When shit like this comes out it just makes me wonder what is going on. It is time for President Bush to start hold people accountable. He has been in office WAY to long not to understand what is going on within his administration. The Pentagon is a mess and someone should lose their job. See ya Donnie.

I wonder......

We just finished watching "Master and Commander" (excellent movie!). I've also recently seen "Braveheart" and "Henry V" (with Kenneth Branagh). I wonder what war would be like if we still fought face to face and hand to hand.
What are your thoughts and opinions? I think wars might not last so long.

Did you watch the "Friends" final episode?

Pretty sure this is the question of the day. I am not a big fan of the show and despite the fact that we own a couple of seasons on DVD, I think I have only watched maybe four or five episodes. I did manage to catch the last half hour or so of the finale.
Did you watch? What did you think? Was it the farewell you thought it would be? Was it stuck in second gear? How about Ross and Rachel hooking up again? Was it cheesy? Please comment on the line: "I got off the plane". Where should they go for coffee? How would a chick and a duckling get inside a foosball table? Can you really get from JFK to Newark airport in under a half hour? Is Phoebe really that dumb or is it an act? Apparently, the girl can really drive.
What is the greatest finale of any TV show? M*A*S*H? Marty Tyler Moore? Cheers? Seinfeld? Personally, I still remember when the final episode of M*A*S*H when Radar O'Reilly died in a plane crash. I think it is still one of the most watched shows in TV history. It was way cheesy and a tear-jerker. I guess most shows don't get a "finale" and that is just and proper. Was there a Brady Bunch final episode? Star Trek? Herman's Head? The Partridge Family? I don't recall and frankly, don't care all that much.
I just wish Dan Rather would have his finale and a big send-off at CBS and that the Simpsons will never, ever end.
