LAB 1 Creating the Environment

In this lab we download Windows 2008, install Virtual PC and setup a Windows 2008 Windows Deployment Server on it. I have borrowed contoso.com for our labs from Microsoft and we will create a test environment for ourselves that we can use to test and play with Windows 2008 and Windows 7 deployment. The machines from these labs should be isolated from the network and you should not connect them to your network at work or home. The labs will likely break the virtual machines and I suggest that you plan on rebuilding your environment several times before you finish with them.

VERY IMPORTANT. These labs are designed for The version of Virtual PC indicated. The version that comes with XP mode and the one that is provided with windows 7 do NOT work. You also want to put the ISO’s of Windows 7 and Windows 2008 on your hard drive. Capturing the CD-ROM talks a Loooong time.

I hope you learn as much about windows 2008 server and Windows 7 as I did while writing these labs. Clyde G. Johnson
