OPTION 1:ACADEMIC

This option is for students who wish to gain an Overall Position (OP) at the completion of their Year 11 and 12 studies.

This option enables students to pursue Tertiary study after Year 12.

Students select a minimum of five (5) Authority subjects and a maximum of one (1) Authority Registered subject (excluding English Communication).

The Queensland Studies Authority requirements for the awarding of an OP are:

  1. Students MUST study a minimum of 20 semester units from Authority subjects, over two years.
  2. Although English is not mandated by the QSA for OP eligibility, most tertiary courses require this as a prerequisite. Check the Tertiary Admissions Guide carefully for this.
  3. Students MUST study a minimum of three (3) subjects for four (4) semesters each (ie ALL of Years 11 and 12).

Additionally, students should consult the relevant Tertiary Admissions Guide for further information attached to preferred post secondary courses of study, particularly prerequisite subjects and Field Positions (FP’s).

OPTION 2:VOCATIONAL

This option is for students who do NOT wish to gain an OP at the end of their Year 12 studies.

This option is characterised by students who select two (2) or more Authority Registered subjects or who select English Communication. Students may select a combination of Authority and Authority Registered subjects.

OPTION 3:SCHOOL BASED APPRENTICESHIP OR TRAINEESHIP

This option applies ONLY to students who are undertaking a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SATs).

SAT’s are organised through the school with the assistance of our Head of Department Senior Schooling (Mrs Platt). Students undertaking a SAT usually spend at least one day per week with an out of school employer or at TAFE. The employer is responsible for “on the job” training in the area of the apprenticeship/traineeship.

Students engaged in a SAT have a reduced academic load of 5 subjects in order to best maximise their “at school” time.

Traineeships are available to both OP eligible and OP ineligible students. Apprenticeships are available only to OP ineligible students.

OPTION 4:TAFE Schools Program

This option applies to students who enrol in the TAFE Schools Program 2015.

The courses are offered to students at a fee, and students must attend all required days to complete the course. The TAFE offers various courses for students in Year 11 and 12. If students are successful in enrolling in any of the courses, students attend TAFE one day per week during the duration of their chosen course, instead of attending school during Year 11 and 12.

Enrolment is organised through the school and TAFE with the assistance of our Head of Department Senior Schooling Mr Freshwater.
