Book Summary Instructions
Book Summary 2:
The second Book Summary will be a summary of the Walton text,Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament, and must be at least 15 pages, not including the title page. Please be sure to summarize each chapter and the postscript.
In addition to the textbook reading and the one presentation you must view, thebig assignmentis your book summary #2. PLEASE read the book summary instructions found in the course content link for week #7. Make sure you provide a page or more that clearly summarizes what Walton writes in each chapter/section. If you provide less than a page of summary, I will deduct points. Don't waste space with extra lines before and after headings. Regardless, I am looking for a page of summary content for each section. Remember to use 1 inch margins all around and don't provide many quotations. The idea of the assignment is that you summarize what Walton says. If you do give quotes and footnote them, be sure you use proper Turabian format. DO NOTfootnote each idea you draw from Walton!! The point of the assignment is that you are summarizing what Walton is saying. My assumption is that the vast majority of your paper involves a summary of Walton's ideas. You will have some transitional statements, but in this assignment, there is no need to footnote anything but an exact quotation, which should not be frequent. In reality, you don't need to directly quote from Walton at all.
As much as you might be tempted to interact with and evaluate Walton's views, remember that this assignment asks you to do a good job of accurately summarizing his argument in each chapter. The ability to clearly and accurately and summarize what you read is a skill that is needed in numerous settings. Also, please pay attention to comments I made on your first book summary. Those comments would have appeared in "balloons" to the side of the page.
General Instructions:
Write a one-page summary for each introduction, chapter, conclusion, and postscript found in the books. Each section should have its own heading in the papers. The major topics discussed in each section of the books should be summarized. Theseare not intended to be book reviews, but summary re-statements of the authors’ works in your own words.
Please use the following guidelines:
- Limit direct quotations from the books. Summarize the authors’ concepts in your own words.
- Add a title page in Turabian format for each Book Summary. The title page does not count toward the total number of pages.
- With the exception of the title page, use 1-inch margins all around throughout the body of the papers.
