Hotel Issues: Addressed by Councillor Sloane

The noise problem is similar to a previous issue with brothels in Bondi Junction. The most affected building from the Grand Hotel is the Genoa apartment block. Police do not appear to be complying. New CCTV cameras to monitor noise & patron behaviour outside take-away food shops. Residents are also affected by noise from late night hotel cleaning & bottle/glass disposal. The whole area bounded by Ebley Street, McKenzie Street & Bronte Road is affected.

A new committee is being formed with the contact being Enid Hogan. Enid addressed the meeting, listing various complaints concerning pub patron's misbehaviour. Various residents addressed their concerns about pub patrons’ noise. At this point the Mayor arrived unexpectedly and immediately participated in Cr. Sloane's delivery.

Kerryn Sloane announced a $100,000 Art Piece site will be soon be decided.

Motion: Proposed by Enid Hogan, seconded by Anne Campbell

The Bondi Junction Precinct meeting (20/02/2008) calls on Waverley Council to act, as a matter of urgency, on the continuing disturbance caused to local residents by the three hotels immediately in our vicinity.

In particular we request action by Council to the Licensing Board to review the current opening hours of the Eastern, the Tea Gardens and the Grand hotels. Currently local residents are subjected to drunken, loutish conduct by the hotel patrons virtually 24 hours per day.

Furthermore we request the Council to exercise influence with the Police Department to properly supervise conduct of patrons leaving the hotels at closing hours, dispersing patrons on departure and the implementation of laws governing the sale of alcohol.

Passed 15:0 with 14 abstaining
