Course Description:

This course offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of creative movement activities that are both locomotor and non- locomotor. Students will develop rhythmic and spatial awareness while they improve their flexibility and conditioning levels. Dance forms taught during the course will include the following: Latino/Salsa and hip-hop dance. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in dance composition and performance. This course will offer the students to experience different forms of aerobic conditioning with such things as body sculpting, step aerobics, abdominal classes and spin.

Dress Requirements:Gym shorts, school appropriate t-shirt, tennis shoes and socks!!!!!!!!!!!!

A sweat suit or warm-up is recommended for colder weather, and is to be worn over the required t-shirt. In addition each student will need to bring clothes that they can store in the locker room, water bottle, P.E. folder and notebook, and a blue or black ink pen or pencil as a writing utensil.

Medical Excuses:

If you cannot participate due to a medical reason, you must bring a note to the nurse stating the reason and date for not participating. Parental notes may only excuse a student a maximum of one day. If you are excused for an extended period of time, you must have a doctor’s note stating the reason and length. Notes must be delivered to the School Nurse and myself upon arrival to school.

Valuables/ Lockers:

Lockers are provided for you to use during your P.E. period ONLY. Please bring a lock daily and lock your valuables up. Valuables are YOUR responsibility.

Beginning and End of Class Period:

You are expected to dress quickly and meet you teacher in your assigned seat. At no time should you TOUCH equipment unless instructed to by the teacher. Please wait for the teacher to dismiss you at the end of the period. You are not permitted to leave the gym for any reason without permission. Students are expected to use the restrooms while they are changing in the locker rooms. No dressing in the gymnasium.

Miscellaneous:

You are expected to have a pass if you are late to class.

Dressing out:

Changing into appropriate gym clothing is required for comfort, safety, and hygiene. Jewelry should be removed prior to class and is the student’s responsibility. Students will be allowed and expected to participate in class as long as they are not wearing any apparel deemed dangerous or inappropriate by the teacher.

Participation: Attendance is extremely important!!!

Classroom Rules/Expectations:

You will be expected to follow these expectations each day

  • You have 5 minutes from the time the bell rings to get dressed and meet the rest of class.
  • Acceptable dress includes:

Socks/sneakers- NO heels, platforms, boots, and sandals

Shorts, sweat pants, wind pants, NO jeans, skirt, dress, slacks

Full length shorts or long sleeve T-shirt or sweatshirt, No crop tops

  • Lock for locker, each student is responsible for his/her own valuables during the class period
  • Any toiletries-brush, deodorant, lotion, etc.…that you may need.

Beginning and Ending of class:

  1. Be on time for every class, tardies will be enforced. 3 tardies = detention
  2. If you are late more than 10 minutes to class, you will be marked as absent.

Points and Grading:

Your grade will be based on the following point system. PARTICIPATION (mandatory)

  • Points will be awarded for effort, conduct, adherence to rules and safety procedures, and participation.
  • 25 total points possible per class period

(On time, Dressed out, Participate)

You will lose points for the following:

-Sneaks out or leaves early without permission

- Sits out and does not participate

- Tardies

Missing Class:

  • You are expected to be in class and participate every time we meet. However if you miss a class for any reason you will lose points for that day.

To be EXCUSED from class you will need a PARENT/DOCTOR NOTE.

  • NO DRESS or UNEXCUSED ABSENT

You will not be able to make up those points.

Note: Work not completed for Physical Education will result in a failure.

The failure will become permanent at the end of the semester class.
