PRESS RELEASE / BLOCK

Block – back to basics instead of

another brick in the wall

The saying says it all. This is an Eilersen. But does Block form part of the collection of lounging sofas? Or is one on its own? Jens Juul Eilersen called Block a primal sofa as its simplicity takes you on a journey in time back to basics.

It is so simple it is almost advanced. As the market and people in general have become accustomed to a cornucopia of designs, details and frills, the first impression of Block is one of surprise. And it may also give rise to curiosity after finding out why it gives peace of mind. Why the eyes don’t tire of it. Why it is just right – without making a fuss about itself.

A homage to simplicity

“My idea was to create as simple a piece of seating furniture as absolutely possible” Jens Juul Eilersen. “The market demands deeper, softer and cosier furniture – usually with the possibility of playing with the details and colours. Block meets this demand with its toy box of armrests which can be attached and removed – and special cushions which can be piled up at will, depending on what you need in terms of function, comfort plus any decorative effects. This type of cushion game only works if the base is solid and simple. Therefore, in reality Block is nothing but a block that stands firmly on its short legs like an unshakeable rock in the guise of the simplest sofa you can get”.

Alternate the elements – simple and convenient

“Our strategy has always been to produce furniture with a focus on modern design, high quality, a unique level of comfort and excellent functionality. Block is based on Eilersen’s unique connection system in which elements can be combined as required. The elements are also designed so that the armrests, both on the right and left, can be added and removed. The range of cushions provides additional functionality as neck supports, down cushions in different sizes and, in particular, triangular cushions can supplement the straight back in supporting different sitting positions.

Down to earth and versatile

“To underline the down to earth simplicity of Block I have specially designed legs with a height of only 3 cm so that Block only just appears to avoid contact with the floor” explains Jens Juul Eilersen.

Block is a typical modular sofa with a multiple individualism thanks to a varied range of elements. The seating elements are available in widths of 100, 120, 130 and 140 cm. And you can choose a depth between 100 and 110 cm (140 cm especially for the corner element) and for the chaise-longue 170 cm. The optional armrests come in three sizes. A high one at 50 cm and width of 22 cm plus a lower one at 43 cm with a choice of widths of 30 and 40 cm.

Jens Juul Eilersen

Has since the mid-1960s been responsible for the design developments at N. Eilersen A/S. Jens Juul Eilersen has no theoretical training – but is interested and has a fantastic talent. All his sofas are created in accordance with classic geometric proportions, guaranteeing balance and harmony in terms of both function and expression. Jens Juul Eilersen has, among other things, created one of Eilersen´s biggest sellers, the CONTROL lounge chair, which after being on the market for 30 years can rightly be called a classic. Jens Juul Eilersen has always had a nose for the innovative and has produced and patented a number of his creative designs. This innovation is also being expressed today whereby his designs are an expression of time and not of that fact that he is now in his seventies.
