Designation:Community Liaison Officer (Early Years)

Responsible to: Headteacher

Grade: C1 £6822-£9008 (Pro Rata £16830-£22,221)

Based at Oaklands School Sure Start Children’s Centre and working within the community.

Main Purpose Of Job

The main purpose of the job is to work with parents and children from birth to the end of the foundation stage, to enable children and families to link into a network of community services. To ensure the active involvement of parents, carers and the wider community in the development of family support and outreach services.

Accountability

  1. To plan, organise and facilitate Drop-in sessions.
  2. To provide a wide range of stimulating, appropriate non-bias activities for young children and babies.
  3. To carry out Home Play visiting.
  4. To actively engage families in the following activities:
  5. Assessment of their child, or children’s developmental needs.
  6. Planning enjoyable activities for their child/children.
  7. Exploring opportunities for play in the home.
  8. Exploring opportunities for using every day materials and routines for play and learning.
  9. Discussing implementing simple techniques for gaining the child’s interests and for structuring the child’s environment to enhance the child/parent relationships.
  10. To encourage and empower parents to recognise, value and develop their skills.
  11. To sign-post families to relevant services and support their attendance at local groups, activities and events.
  12. To keep accurate records.
  13. To attend relevant whole school meetings as part of the schools Senior Management Team, as well as, attend training courses, conferences and external meetings to help promote the aims of the Children’s Centre as directed by the Headteacher.
  1. To establish and maintain good working relationships with key local partners e.g. health visitors, GPs, Childminders, pre-schools, schools, parent and toddler groups
  2. To be fully aware of Child Protection procedures and to take appropriate action in Child Protection situations.
  3. Act in accordance with the Equal Opportunities Policy and undertake duties as required.
  4. To undertake other duties considered within the scope of the post, as required.

Skills & Abilities -

To communicate clearly and sensitively with families and children.

To be able to engage children and parents in a wide range of non-discriminatory activities.

To be able to form good working relationships with colleagues and key local partners.

To be flexible and adaptable.

To be able to support parents in forming positive relationships with their children.

To be able to organise and take part in group activities within the Children’s Centre and ensure a safe, secure and stimulating play environment is provided.

Knowledge, Education & Qualifications -

Level 3 qualification in childcare/education (e.g. NNEB, BTEC,NVQ3) or comparable relevant qualification

Good standard of basic education

Knowledge and understanding of child development and the value and importance of play.

Knowledge and understanding of the value of promoting positive parent/child relationships and interactions.

Knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of the Children Act 1989.

Experience -

Experience of playing and communicating with children, parenting and family life is essential

Involvement with families and children through work experience, voluntary experience etc.

Supervision and management

The post holder will:

Be managed directly by the Children’s Centre Manager

Job Context

The post holder will:

Establish excellent links with existing Family Liaison Officers to ensure an effective and seamless service for local children and families

Support contact and liaison with Health service, local statutory and voluntary agencies and organisations
