Are you looking for a voluntary position where you can make a difference?

If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed member of the public to help shape the safeguarding arrangements adults with care and support needs in Cumbria and offer challenge to the agencies who work in partnership to keep people safe.

The role is voluntary, for up to 2 days per month and expenses are paid to cover costs incurred for travel.

ROLE PROFILE FOR CSAB LAY MEMBER

Main Purpose of the Role:

a)  As a full member of the Safeguarding Adults Board - participation in the decision making of the Board.

b)  Provide a lay perspective

c)  Contribute to and participate in events aimed at providing an improved understanding in the community of the CSAB’s adult safeguarding work.

d)  Promote a wider public engagement on local adult safeguarding issues.

e)  To bring an independent view to the Board to enable it to focus on the interests and needs of adults in the County

f)  Play an active and valuable role is supporting the Board’s primary function of reviewing and scrutinising partner agencies against the delivery of the National & Local agreed outcomes and targets.

g)  Also contribute to the Board’s review of its own functioning and performance

Key Relationships:

a)  Working with other members of the Board and its Sub-Groups.

b)  Other key relationships are with members of the public, community groups, senior officers, and partner organisations including voluntary sector bodies.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

a)  Taking part in the work of the CSAB, including preparation in advance of the meeting by reading the published agenda and papers.

b)  Bringing an element of external challenge to the CSAB discussions, decisions and performance.

c)  Raising issues of public concern, for consideration and for future scrutiny at the Board and its Sub-Groups (where relevant).

d)  Attending and contributing to the Sub-Groups and other working groups where relevant.

e)  Promoting awareness, understanding and interest in the work of the Board and its partners in relation to adult safety issues.

f)  Liaising with community groups, carers and families to recommend improvements to adult safeguarding arrangements and services.

g)  Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of accountability and good governance practice.

h)  Taking part in development activities arranged to improve Board members’ knowledge and understanding of its role and the topics it is scrutinising.

i)  Maintaining the confidentiality of Board discussions in line with statute.

Requirements of the role:

a)  Should be actively involved in local community activities.

b)  Through the group they represent and other forums, be able to communicate messages from the Board.

c)  Be able to bring public perspective to the Board which will assist in planning the Boards activities.

d)  Be available for four annual Board meetings and the Board’s 2 development days. Where agreed, the person may additionally volunteer to attend the CSAB’s Sub-Group meetings.

Remuneration:

Travelling expenses will be paid

Length of Appointment:

The person will be appointed for a period of three years.
