14th Annual Hoops Hoopla Basketball Tournament

The HOOPS HOOPLA tournament has become one of the Black Volunteer Network’s annual events, attracting hundreds of students from across campus to gather in a social setting. The ever popular evening of basketball will include a single elimination tournament, a 3-point shoot out contest, as well as entertainment and prizes. This year, HOOPS will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 6-10pm at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor Intramural Sports Building (located at 606E. Hoover Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48109).

Check-In:

1.  We will send out the tournament bracket a week before the tournament. You must be there at least 30 minutes before your game. If you are late, you forfeit the game AND your registration fee.

2.  Any player on a team roster that has not signed a player responsibility waiver may not participate in any of the following activities.

Description of Activities:

ANY PLAYER THAT DOES NOT SIGN THE RESPONSIBILITY WAIVER MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES

The team tournament will be the main focus of the event. Teams will compete in a single elimination competition for the $500 prize. After the second round, the highest scoring losing team will return to the tournament in the WILD CARD spot. Following are the tournament rules:

·  Each team must pay an entry fee of $35+ $5 for every person after the 5th player. This fee must be submitted at the time of registration. It is NON-REFUNDABLE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Teams must have at least 5 players. Only in the event of injury will teams be allowed to play with less than 5 players.

·  All standard basketball rules apply

·  There will not be enough teams or time for every team to have a Bi

·  Only five members will play at one time; any additional members will remain on their team’s sideline while their game is in session. Players must only compete for one team. Once the tournament has begun, players may not switch teams under any circumstances.

·  All players must arrive with valid photo ID in order to play for their team

·  All rounds of the tournament are 7-minute halves with a running clock. Additional time may be added ONLY for injuries or other feasible circumstances at the discretion of referees and BVN tournament directors

·  Since we do not require players to wear numbers, there will be no fouling out, but BVN tournament directors reserve the right to disqualify ANY player for flagrant and unnecessary violent conduct. If it seems to the refs or any BVN tournament director that you are intentionally fouling in an overly aggressive manner; you will be disqualified and asked to leave and/or be removed from the tournament. In the event that you start a fight with another player or spectator, you will be removed IMMEDIATELY!

·  On the 6th foul, teams will be in a bonus situation.

3-Point Shoot Out

The three point competition will test the long-range accuracy of shooters within a limited time frame. There is a $3.00 entry fee for those already registered in the tournament. You can sign up for the 3 point contest before the tournament or the day of.

·  Each contestant will have 1 minute to shoot from 4 different spots around the 3-point arc. Four shots will be taken from each spot.

·  The top two scorers from the first round will advance to the finals. Whoever completes “around the world and back” first wins.

·  Score are not cumulative from round to round

·  Sign-up will be first come first serve. No more than 10 people will be allowed to participate!!!

Dunk Contest

The dunk contest will provide an opportunity for players to showcase their dunking ability. There is a $3.00 entry fee for those already registered in the tournament. You can sign up for the dunk contest before the tournament or the day of.

·  Each contestant will have 1 minute to complete his/her most creative dunk.

·  The top two scorers will move to the second round where they will have two minutes to complete as many creative dunks as possible.

·  The contest will be judged on a 10-point scale from the selected judges.

·  Score are not cumulative from round to round

·  Sign-up will be first come first serve. No more than 10 people will be allowed to participate!!!
