NOTES: AT&T has collaborated with Girls Who Code to empower teenage girls with the opportunity to gain the computing skills needed to pursue 21st century careers. With support from AT&T Aspire, Girls Who Code will reach more girls in more locations during the nationwide 2015 Summer Immersion Program. Each location will host a cohort of 20 young women daily, for seven weeks and they will learn everything from mobile app development to robotics to web design and, ultimately, have a chance to build the products they want to see in the world. Along the way, the girls will hear from inspiring guest speakers and take field trips to gain exposure to the wide array of career possibilities in computer science. And, now, the applications are open! The program is free for participants and no prior experience is necessary. Current 10th and 11th grade girls with a passion for tech are encouraged to apply. NOTES: San Francisco International Airport has a robust internship program and hosts more than 100 interns annually. Our College Summer Interns will work full-time, 40 hours per week, in an assigned Airport Commission section. Each intern will work directly with an SFO Mentor who will task them with both daily tasks and larger scale projects. Past interns projects have included preparing complex reports, conducting surveys, producing website or social media content, assisting in event planning, and other duties as assigned by their host office. Tamalpais. Projects and activities include trail work, plant propagation, and habitat restoration. Students also focus on team-building and exploration during a four-day camping. Program is physically demanding and participants must be able to commit to the entire six week period without scheduling conflicts. Upon completion, students receive an educational award of $1000.

NOTES: The foundation of Aim High is an intensive, engaging and challenging five-week summer school program for middle school students from low-income families. Students join after 5th or 6th grade, and participate for three or four consecutive summers. Students graduate from Aim High in the summer prior to their freshman year in high school. Aim High works in close partnership with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA), the Exploratorium, as well as partner schools, school districts, and universities.Middle school is a crucial juncture in making a difference in young people's lives and the purpose of Aim High is to reach students at this critical crossroads and propel them towards success in high school and college. Research has shown that sustained intervention during the middle school years goes a long way to keeping students engaged in their education, resulting in lower high school drop-out rates and higher rates of college matriculation. NOTES: Year Up Bay Area is currently recruiting for our March 2015 class and we are encouraging prospective students to submit their applications by January 23rd in order to ensure completion before the program begins on March 3rd. While we serve the entire Bay Area, our goal is to enroll at least 20 students who currently reside or formerly resided in San Francisco’s southeastern neighborhoods — Bayview-Hunters Point, Potrero Hill, Visitacion Valley, and the Excelsior – among the 120 students we will admit to our March 2015 class. To date, we have enrolled 11 residents of these communities; therefore we would greatly appreciate your assistance in connecting us with young adults in need of opportunity. Who are we looking for: young adults ages 18-24 who are highly motivated and have a high school diploma or GED? They may have some college or an associate degree, but are not eligible if they have attained a bachelor’s degree. What we offer: five months of full-time professional training, a six-month corporate internship, college credits from Foothill College, an educational stipend of up to $1000 per month, and the opportunity to be a part of a caring, supportive community. Our most recent class of Year Up Bay Area graduates is earning an average starting wage of $22 an hour.
