APEX /
  • CTE purchased student licenses for every 8th grade student in BISD. Students in 6th and 7th grade may use the demo website.

  • Caroline Myers suggest that every campus link the ECHS website to their school website. Curriculum and study material can be found under the TSI tab.
  • Assignment sheets for STAAR/TSI/ACT/SAT prep were emailed to administrators to disseminate accordingly.

ECHS Current Issues & Key Dates /
  • Every ECHS needs to assemble a monthly steering committee meeting comprised of administrators, faculty, student, and community representatives. These meetings help facilitate communication, feedback, and ECHS buy in.
  • An ECHS student club would greatly assist each campus promoting ECHS via student ambassadors. UTGRV is hosting a leadership conference on November 10th, 2017, where each campus may send ten student leaders to receive training.
  • Mr. Hammons advised each principal that a SBDM meeting is needed at each campus to review the new ECHS blueprint. He will develop a sign in sheet for members to decide which ECHS model they vote on (school within a school vs. comprehensive campus). The sign in sheets are due to Advanced Academics by December 8th, 2017.
  • Every 8th grade student who wishes to attempt the reading TSI will be allowed to do so if they return a letter of intent signed by the parent. The deadline for 8th grade students to attempt the TSI is December 12th, 2017, in preparation for fall 2018.
  • Until the BISD 2018-2019 academic calendar is finalized information regarding summer dual credit courses is on hold.
  • Non negotiables for BISD being an ECHS were discussed with cabinet members. A need for adequate funding was mentioned if BISD wishes to operate as an ECHS district.
  • Key dates and deadlines for November, December, and January were announced. Mr. Hammons reminded administrators of the PSJA College for All Conference on November 14th and 15th, 2017. BISD will present with TSC on the importance of communication and governance structure.
  • Caroline Myers discussed the i3 project update and tasks in progress.
  • Human Resource department is in the process of creating a BISD human capital report indicating which employees have a master’s degree. This will aid ECHS campuses in recruiting instructors to teach dual credit courses.

TSC /
  • TSC introduced Dr. Joanna Kile as the Vice-President of Instruction.
  • The MOU is in the process of being finalized.
  • Meetings with BISD’s CTE department are underway to discuss CTE certification alignment.
  • Mr. Crouse asked for principals to get faculty feedback and input for the spring professional development session.
  • FERPA release form needs to be completed if a parent wishes to discuss grades with his/her child’s dual credit instructor. Mr. Hammons will forward Mr. Crouse’s email regarding FERPA as soon as it is received.
  • Caroline Myers and Joe Arambul discuss the need for campus registrars to notify transitional counselors and ECHS directors if a dual credit student is transferring to a new school or leaving the district. Proper paperwork for TSC needs to be completed before the child transfers. In some cases, this could result in a withdrawal or W on the child’s college transcript. If documentation is not submitted to TSC a child could be in danger of receiving a failing grade.

UTRGV /
  • The Greater Texas Foundation meeting was a great success and largely focused on dual data from the valley IHE’s. Administrators had rich conversation centered on processes and procedures to support ECHS students socially, emotionally, and academically.
  • Spring registration for concurrent enrollment is open and students may begin submitting documentation via . Returning students should consult with their ECHS counselor.

TAMUK /
  • TAMUK is ready and willing to serve BISD as needed.
