Class Rules

Disruptive behavior or disrespect will not be tolerated.

Cell phones must be turned off during class.

Food may not be consumed during class. Water is permitted.

Be on time for class.

Violation of class rules may result in a verbal warning, phone call home, disciplinary referral

and/or removal from class, depending on the severity of the violation.

Expectations

If you have a comment or question while the teacher or someone else is speaking, please raise your

hand and wait to be called on.

Each student is expected to participate in class discussions, lab activities, etc.

Students are expected to put forth their best effort in learning the subject material.

Be polite to your teacher and your classmates. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated!!

Textbooks

You will be assigned a textbook. It MUST be kept covered, clean and free of writing

Replacement cost will be charged for books that are lost or not returned at the end of the year.

Damages will be charged for books that are turned in with more than normal wear and tear.

Grading

Assignmentswill be worth 25% of the marking period grade. They must be completely finished, legible and turned in when they are due. Assignments may or may not be graded. Assignments may be completed during class time or as homework. Late assignments are worth up to ½ credit.

Quizzes will be worth 25% of the marking period grade and are usually announced one day in advance. Quizzes that are missed due to absence must be completed within one week of the original quiz date; otherwise a grade of zero will be recorded.

Lab Activities will be worth 25% of the marking period grade. Even though you may be assigned to work in a group, each studentmust complete an individual lab packet or report of their work. All lab packets or reports must be turned in on the due date. Lab activities that are missed due to absence must be completed within one week of the original date; otherwise a zero will be recorded.

Tests will be worth 25% of the marking period grade. Tests will be announced at least two days in advance. Tests that are missed due to absence must be completed within one week of the original test date; otherwise a zero will be recorded.

Lab Safety

All students must sign this copy of the lab safety rules and keep it in your binder.

The following safety regulations must be observed at all times in the laboratory:

  1. Horsing around, running, fighting, or other unsafe behavior will NOT be tolerated in the laboratory.
  2. When entering the science lab, do not touch any equipment or chemicals until you are instructed to do so.
  3. ALL accidents and/or injuries must be reported to the teacher immediately.
  4. FOLLOW all written and verbal instructions carefully. If you don’t understand the directions or part of the procedure, ask the teacher.
  5. DO NOT taste, touch or smell any substance unless specifically instructed to do so.
  6. SAFETY GOGGLES will be worn at all times when working with chemicals.
  7. DRESS appropriately for laboratory work. Lab aprons will be made available.
  8. PROPERLY dispose of all materials. Dispose of solids and liquids as per teacher instructions.
  9. REPORT any problems with equipment to the instructor immediately.
  10. KEEP all floors, aisles, and passageways clear of obstructions. Put your backpacks and other personal belongings underneath the lab tables.
  11. STAY and work in your assigned group. DO NOT distract other groups from their work.
  12. AFTER each lab, wash your hands, equipment and lab tables. Clean the floor of any debris.
  13. USE COMMON SENSE. Use caution when carrying laboratory equipment to/from the lab stations. BE AWARE of what is going on around you.

I have read and understand the safety rules listed on this page. I agree to follow these rules and will comply with all directions issued by my instructor in the laboratory. I will conduct myself in a professional, responsible manner at all times. I realize if I knowingly disregard this contract, I will not be permitted to take part in laboratory activities and may receive a zero for the laboratory activity.
