Job Description – Phase Leader KS2

Job Title: KS2 Phase Leader
/ Grade/ Level: M5-UP3
Role reports to (Job Title): Head teacher
Job Purpose:
  • Together with the leadership team, ensure a high standard of provision for pupils
  • Improve quality of teaching and learning in Key Stage 2 (specifically in either upper or lower phase)
  • Performance manage identified staff
  • To be an excellent classroom practitioner
  • Have an impact on educational progress beyond their assigned pupils
  • Actively participate in whole school self evaluation and school improvement planning
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.

Key Accountabilities:
In addition to carrying out the duties of a class teacher as outlined in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document, the Phase Leader will be expected to carry out the following where appropriate:
Leadership and Management Role
Improve teaching and learning across the phase
Be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and attend meetings
Contribute to the vision and ethos of the school
Support the school leadership with the day to day organization of the school routines
Liaise with colleagues to contribute, implement and evaluate the success of the Strategic Action Plan
Be an effective role model of excellent teaching, behaviour management and classroom management
Monitor and review the curricular provision for your area/s of responsibility in terms of:
-Breadth and balance ensuring that the schools’ curriculum map is being followed
-Review pupil progress through the analysis of data ensuring information is used for planning and target setting
-Ensuring completion and transfer of records and implementation of all policies
-Differentiation and personalized learning goals for pupils (together with the SLT)
-Quality of learning and teaching with responsibility for improved pupil outcomes including lesson observations
-Liaise with Governors to review actions and developments with regards to your agreed area of responsibility
Ensure policies are translated into practice by staff and that you bring to the attention of the SLT any which may need revisions or amendments
Take a lead in securing and embedding the pastoral and behavioural support systems present in the school
Take assemblies where appropriate
Act as a mentor for NQTs, new staff and visitors
Liaise with colleagues to identify group and individual training needs and provide support for colleagues within your area of responsibility
Support the key stage: manage the transition of pupils to and from your year group and within it
Assist in the smooth running of the school at all times, including deputizing for other members of staff when required.
Staff Development
Support SLT to develop teaching and the curriculum across a phase within KS2
Lead and participate in staff training and development opportunities as appropriate for your management area to promote a whole school approach
Act as a mentor or consultant to colleagues and encourage collaboration, co-operation and teamwork both within school and across the Link Academy Trust (LACT)
Keep abreast of current development in your management areas and disseminate information as appropriate
To line manage and performance manage identified staff.
