PLEASE READ !!
1) Students are responsible on exams for ALL material from lecture and
assigned readings. You are urged to complete assigned readings BEFORE
lecture, whenever possible, so as to be properly prepared for lecture. This
will also enable you to ask intelligent questions during lecture. Second, you
should immediately study and perhaps rewrite your lecture notes. After doing
this, you will then need to re-read the chapter carefully (probably more than
once) in order to learn the material. Keep a separate list of all terms that
are new to you, learn definitions from the lectures and the chapters (NOT just
from the glossary), and study them repeatedly until you've memorized them.
2) A comprehensive final lecture examination (including new material from
last Chapter(s) covered) will be counted equally with the 3 lecture exams.
3) Short, unannounced quizzes will be given periodically. These quizzes will
cover material from the preceding few days of lecture and readings. The
purpose of these quizzes is two-fold: 1) to induce you to attend every
lecture, take good notes, and keep current with your reading and studying, and
2) to allow you to gauge your progress before the exams.
4) A record of POOR ATTENDANCE (recorded on random days) WILL negatively
affect your grade in this course and may result in failure. Students are
referred to Absence Regulations published in the current VSU Bulletin.
A record of exceptionally good attendance WILL be rewarded with bonus points.
5) Disruptive or disrespectful behavior, inattentiveness, and cheating will
result in disciplinary action and/or a low grade in this course. All cell
phones and audible beepers/pagers must be turned off during class time! Caps
must not be worn or worn only in reverse during quizzes and exams. Nogum
chewing, notalking in class. A sneeze is involuntary, the "bless you" is not.
6) Work out your problems before the exam by visiting me during office
hours--that's what I'm here for! It is your responsibility to arrive to
class on time and obtain all information and instructions. I will not discuss
missed classwork without a signed statement from a Dean, physician, or other
authority. You are responsible for all material and information given or
assigned during class time regardless of your reason for missing class.
7) You are expected to be concurrently enrolled in a section of laboratory,
BIO 1020. Remember, if you drop BIO 1010, you must also receive your lab
instructor's signature on a drop slip for BIO 1020 before midterm.
8) The last day to drop this or any course (MIDTERM) is Thurs., Oct 4, 2007.
If you fail to get my signature on a withdrawal form on or before that date,
you will receive the grade you earn on completed exams, which may be an "F."
9) You must bring two sharpened #2 pencils with you to each exam.
10) If you should have any kind of question, problem, comment, complaint,
crisis, etc., involving this course, I'm the appropriate person for you to
talk to. Please come by and see me about it immediately; that's what I'm here
for. Note office hours and various ways to leave me a message (p. 1).
11) STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: Students requiring classroom or testing
accomodations because of documented disabilities should discuss their needs
with the instructor at the beginning of the quarter. To register with the VSU
