ELA

Monday – Feb. 15
Large Group / The students will identify the letter “Ww” and its sound using the Project Read 8 steps.
Handwriting / The students will trace a glued letter (Ww) while producing its sound. The students will practice writing the uppercase W.
ABC Center / The students will produce copies of the letter “Ww” using play dough. The students will lay the dough over the letter “Ww” mat to ensure it matches.
Phonological/Phonemic
& Reading / The students will hear and identify the beginning sound in familiar words, specifically the /w/ sound.
Fine Motor/Computers / The students will engage in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities using the computer. (StarfallLexiaCore 5).
Tuesday – Feb. 16
Large Group / The students will learn to recognize letter (Ww) in the context of their names and familiar words.
Handwriting / The students will practice forming the letter “Ww” on felt paper while producing its sound. The students will practice writing the lowercase w.
ABC Center / The students will recognize “Ww” and distinguish it from other letters (letter sort).
Phonological/Phonemic
& Reading / The students will clap and count the syllables in their names, as well as in familiar words.
Fine Motor/Computers / The students will engage in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities using the computer. (StarfallLexiaCore 5).
Wednesday – Feb. 17
Large Group / The students will blend sounds to identify a word. Letter Sounds: /w/, /i/, /g/
Handwriting / The students will form “Ww” in dirt while producing its sound. The students will recognize and write familiar words that begin with Ww.
ABC Center / The students will press a series of dots along the lines of letter “W.” The students will use their pointer finger to trace and feel the shape of the Letter “W.”
Phonological/Phonemic & Reading / The students will produce rhyming words. Teacher will say: “Tell me a word that rhymes with [ wig, west, wag ].”
Fine Motor/Computers / The students will strengthen fine motor skills using play dough and tools.

ELA

Thursday – Feb. 18
Large Group / The students will finger spell a word to segment its sounds for spelling. The students will use the letters that capture those sounds to build the word. Target word: wag
Handwriting / The students will draw a picture of an object that begins with letter “w” and write the word.
ABC Center / The students will search magazines for the uppercase “W” and lowercase “w” and circle the letters with a marker.
Phonological/Phonemic & Reading / The students will segment compound words into parts. Teacher will say: “Say the two parts that make [ washcloth].” [ wash] [cloth].
Fine Motor/Computers / The students will strengthen fine motor skills by Sorting out objects into tins using tweezers.
Friday – Feb. 19
Large Group / The students will review the letter “Ww” and its sound using the Project Read 8 steps.
Handwriting / The students will practice letter formation by writing upper- and lowercase letters on handwriting paper.
ABC Center / The students will develop word formation skills by arranging magnetic letters to match word cards.
Phonological/Phonemic & Reading / The students will count how many words are in a sentence by putting chips under each word and counting them. Student will read the sentence back to the teacher after teacher reads the sentence.
Fine Motor/Computers / The students will engage in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities using the computer. (StarfallLexiaCore 5)

Science & Social Studies

Monday – Feb. 15
The students will observe and describe today’s weather. Next, the students will brainstorm a flurry of weather words together. The teacher will write children's responses on the board.
Tuesday – Feb. 16
The students will review some of the weather words that they learned yesterday. The students will observe and describe the clouds. Next, the teacher will draw a cloud shape and ask students to give you words or phrases that describe the cloud (round, puffy, flat, thin, etc.).
Wednesday – Feb. 17
The students will listen to a weather report to find out what information is included in a weather forecast. Afterwards, the students will try their hand at predicting the next day's weather by writing a weather forecast of their own.
Thursday – Feb. 18
Students will reread their forecasts to see how accurate they were. Next, the students will write about their weather-related experiences. Explain that they should describe what happened, where and when it occurred, and how it made them feel. Invite students to draw pictures to illustrate their stories.
Friday – Feb. 19
Students will complete their weather-related writings. Then have them bind their stories into a book and display the book where others can read it.
