My Dance of the Month
Be On You (Jordan Lloyd)
Important Note : The scores below are my own assessment – They take into account class feedback/reaction – But ultimately they are my own view – To see the class scores check out my Dances Taught pages & see a rating out of 5 from the dancers themselves – We agree most times – But not always !!
Evacuate The Dancefloor (Craig Bennett)
Cascada (Evacuate The Dance Floor)
64/2 Intermediate/Advanced
Music 9 Dance 9
A great follow-up to Poker Face & a good mix of new & classic steps to another great funky pop track which should have as much widespread Mainline/Newline appeal as Poker Face did – Cool start with the syncopation & holds – Tricky to start with but effective – Extremely popular with both classes & filling the floor everywhere I go, most recently at the World Masters where it was a big hit teach.
Be On You (Jordan Lloyd)
Flo Rida (Be On You)
32/4 Intermediate/Advanced
Music 10 Dance 9
A really cool funky night club track & a great dance from Jordan, relatively new on the Newline choreography scene & doing really well – This dance won the Advanced section of the Masters Choreography competition – Flows really well avoiding the traditional night club moves & including a couple of challenging but neat/different turn sequences – Great dance going really well with the Newline crowd.
Break Your Heart (Shaz Walton)
Taio Cruz (Break Your Heart)
64/2 Intermediate/Advanced
Music 9 Dance 9
With Insomnia, Reach Out, Magic & Beautiful all riding high for Shaz just now, this is another great addition – A hit release teach at World Masters & the late-bird funky dances loved it at class – As tricky a dance as Magic, with an especially challenging but cool ending – Like the backward start into the sailor press & sailor cross turns & the heel grind / chug sequence is cool & different – Classic Shaz !!
Mad World (Maurice Rowe)
Adam Lambert (Mad World)
32/4 Intermediate/Advanced
Music 9 Dance 9
A great dance by Maurice – A lovely night club to a classic track – Flows really well but it is very turny to say the least !! ……. Awesome if you like the likes of Purple Rain – Nice ‘runaround’ turn sequence into the end – Popular for those who like a challenge – A ‘dancers dance’ as the saying goes – Looking forward to Maurice joining us at Leeds Newline in September 2010 with Scott & Rachael.
Run (Peter & Alison)
Jamie Knight (Run)
64/2 Intermediate
Music 9 Dance 10
Another great intermediate pop dance from Peter & Alison – Taught this first back in June at our Tucson event where it was well received – And now popular with both my classes – It’s taken a while to catch on but slowly but surely seems to be creeping up the latest dance charts around the country – A great dance beat & some really neat moves – I especially like the different repeat cross unwind sequence in the middle & the syncopated Rock/Monterey turns towards the end.
What Do You See (Robbie M. Hickie)
Doc Walker (What Do You See)
64/2 Intermediate
Music 10 Dance 10
Robbie’s on a roll for sure just now – This one could be a modern country classic – A dance along the lines of Somebody Like You or Walk With Me – It just rolls along great with the beaty country track – Lots of classic moves & I love the cool backward weave moving into the kick-ball cross sequence – Great stuff – And the tag has attitude with the stomp hold hitting the beat with a smile – Awesome dance – Getting claps all round from the dancers in class.
Love Me (Robbie M. Hickie)
VV Brown (Love)
48/4 Intermediate
Music 10 Dance 9
Another hot dance for Robbie – His hit teach from World Masters – With Scooby Doo, Cranky, Antidote & What Do You See on the up just now to name but a few, this is surely yet another hit – Another mix of classic & something different too – I especially like the double cross shuffle sequence – The toe/heel start & the touch/heel/hook/shuffle whilst traditional feel so good – Claps again for this one too – The clincher is the track – A suburb swinging two-step – Feed good stuff to dance too for sure.
Speak With Your Heart (Peter & Alison)
Collin Raye (Don’t Tell Me You’re Not In Love)
32/4 Intermediate
Music 9 Dance 8
A lovely traditional country cha cha – Classes with a country & easy-intermediate bias will love this one – Lots of good reports & it is going well in many places I’ve heard – Popular with my traditional/mainstream dancers, but just a bit tame for the ones who like the Modern/Intermediate/Pop stuff – So horses for courses – A really nice smooth nice country cha cha.
Chica Boom Boom (Vikki Morris)
Alex Swings Oscar Sings (Boom Boom Goes My Heart)
32/4 Improver
Music 10 Dance 10
The beginners are loving this one – Cool track to click your fingers too with a smile on the struts Good practice for the chasse/rocks – A tester for the Jazz Brush/Jazz Turn – And fun with the Jazz Jumps & Hips at the end – Great feel good fun – T&V’s See The Light in the same feel good Improver league.
Waltz ‘n Smile (Shaz Walton)
Collin Raye (Open Arms)
24/4 Beginner
Music 8 Dance 8
A great dance for the beginners first waltz before moving onto a classic Waltz Across Texas – Awesome track of course & good introduction to Twinkles & Basics – Nice beginner & they enjoyed their first waltz.
Say Hey Love (Bracken Ellis Potter)
Michael Franti & Spearhead (Say Hey)
32/2 Improver
Music 10 Dance 10
Great mambo – Catchy track & ‘feel good’ dancing – The Beginners/Improvers loved this one – I did too big time – Even the intermediates joined in for the fun factor – Highly recommend this one – In the Crazy Foot Mambo league
Bad Influence (Jo, John & Mark)
Pink (Bad Influence)
64/4 Intermediate
Music 9 Dance 8
Been getting popular this one so thought I’d catch up with it – Class enjoyed it – Catch pop track & cool easy mainstream dance – Fun Macarena style arms – Cool heel/hitch/turn finish – If you don’t fancy the arms on hip & bum just do something else
Water & A Flame (Dee Musk)
Daniel Merriweather (Water & A Flame)
40/4 Intermediate
Music 9 Dance 9
A hit teach for Dee at Masters – A lovely smooth track & the class really enjoyed it – Another nice night club for Dee & a great follow-up to Hush Hush – Neat sailor turn sequence at the beginning & the dance built around 3 ¾ turn chase steps which works really well & keeps you thinking.
My Angel (Kim Ray)
Belle Perez (You)
32/4 Intermediate/Advanced
Music 9 Dance 9
Another hit teach from Masters – A lovely night club, along the lines of Inside Out – A touch harder maybe – Flows really well to a really nice track.
Man In The Mirror (Claire Pulpher)
Michael Jackson (Man In The Mirror)

Music 9 Dance 8
The overall Masters choreography competition winner – A classic track of course & a cool, smooth, easy attitude cha cha – Really well received by the class – A big hit at Masters – Lovely turn/backward start sequence.
