UMCES-IMET SUMMER INTERNSHIP

  • The mission of the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) is to apply the tools of modern biology and biotechnology to study, protect and enhance marine and estuarine resources. The summer internship will provide orientation to working in a lab, seminars on the use of molecular techniques in fisheries and environmental research, a one-day workshop on communicating science, and a research project with anIMET faculty mentor.
  • IMET is housed in a technologically advanced research facility. All rules and regulations of conduct must be followed for your safety and the safety of others. These rules and regulations will be described during the Orientation Session, to be held Monday June 1, 2015.
  • The duration of the internship is Monday June 1 through Friday, July 31, 2015. It is a full-time position. Please do not apply if you can only be here for part of the specified time, have another job or are attending classes during the day. Final reports will be presented on Friday, July 31. Friends and family are encouraged to attend this event.
  • You are expected to participate fully in the daily operation of the laboratory to which you are assigned, attend lab meetings and posted seminars, and conduct research as outlined by your mentor. Evenings and weekends maybe required.
  • Once you accept the internship, you will be obligated to work 40 hours per week for the full duration of the project, June 1 through July 31 and present your findings in an oral report and a poster on July 31.
  • IMET will endeavor to provide summer housing for students from outside the Baltimore metropolitan area. If you need housing, please state that at the top of page 2.
