ENTRY FORM

These awards are open to any member of the East Yorkshire Local Food Network and any business with a presence at the Beverley Food Festival. Entries are FREE!

All entries need to be submitted byMonday 18 August 2014. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Entrants in the Food & Drink categories will then be invited to supply products for tasting at Beverley Tickton Grange, to arrive there no later than 12 noon on Thursday 18 September. Further details will be sent nearer the time.

We are delighted that James Mackenzie from the Pipe and Glass in South Dalton, who champions local and seasonal food in his menus, has joined the team of judges.

Awards will be presented at Beverley Tickton Grange from 6.30pmonTuesday 23 September.

FOOD & DRINK CATEGORIES

These categories are open to local producers. Each producer may enter 2 products per category. Each entry must be accompanied by a short product description, up to 100 characters. This is a description of the product giving details as to how the product is made and where the ingredients are sourced; we are not looking for a marketing pitch! E.g. the strawberry preserve is made with fruit sourced from Market Weighton.

Entries will be judged on taste, appearance, texture, smell and commitment to local sourcing.

The categories are as follows:

  1. Best sausage
  2. Best meat product (Raw, cooked or smoked)
  3. Best fish orseafood product (Raw, cooked or smoked)
  4. Best non-alcoholic drink
  5. Best alcoholic drink
  6. Best savoury baked product (Pies, pork pies, sausage rolls)
  7. Best sweet baked product (Cakes, sweet pies, sweet pastries)
  8. Best condiment (oil/dressing/sauce/spice mix)
  9. Best bread or morning good (Bread, croissant, breakfast cereals, muesli)
  10. Best jam or preserve
  11. Best pickle or chutney
  12. Best dairy product (including cheese & ice cream)
  13. Best confectionery product

  1. Best Retailer of Local Produce:Open to any retailer of local produce (farm shop, deli, fruit and veg shop etc). The winner will demonstrate a true commitment to selling local produce, effective consumer communication and the highest quality standards in all aspects of their business.
  1. Best Food and Drink Event: Open to any event that showcases local food and drink. Again the winner will demonstrate a real commitment to promoting local food and drink by the produce used and/or sold at the event. We will also judge on how the event is promoted and marketed.
  1. Best Local Menu – Pubs & Restaurants: The winner’s menu will demonstrate a real commitment to using local food and drink, they will also be able to demonstrate that, through effective consumer communication, their diners can easily identify that their food and drink is locally sourced.
  1. Best Local Menu – Café & Tearoom: The winner’s menu will demonstrate a real commitment to using local food and drink, they will also be able to demonstrate that, through effective consumer communication, their diners can easily identify that their food and drink is locally sourced.
  1. Best Local Menu – Accommodation Providers: This category is open to any business whose primary focus is accommodation, e.g. Guest House, B&B, Hotel.The winner’s menu will demonstrate a real commitment to using local food and drink. They will also be able to demonstrate that, through effective consumer communication, their diners can easily identify that their food and drink is locally sourced. NB We are not judging the accommodation; we are solely interested in the food and drink offering.

19. Local Food Hero: This award is made tosomeone who has made a telling contribution to any business involved in local food and drink. E.g. It may be someone who cooks and uses local food, it may be someone who grows and produces local food, it may be someone who retails or delivers local food. The individual needs to have a passion and enthusiasm for local food and drink, which is infectious. Above all they should have, in whatever shape or form it may be, made a really important contribution to local food and drink in our area.

NB In this category we will accept nominations for yourself or others. Please ensure you make it clear whether you are nominating yourself or someone else.
