Bell ringers for the week:Focus on Shifts in Verb Tense and Pronoun Case

Tuesday, February 5

DLT: 1. I can identify and analyze the ways in which the devices the author chooses (irony, imagery, tone, foreshadowing, symbolism, etc.) achieve specific effects and shape meaning in increasingly challenging texts. (Quality Core A.5.e)

2. I can use verb tenses consistently in a text and edit for mistakes in pronoun case.

Activity:1. Bell ringer (ACT Questions from Act Prep Book in the Bell Ringers file on my teacher website)

2. Hand out the article on Manti Te’o. Homework: Finish answering questions about the article.

3. Review of Novel Unit terms through context.

Wednesday, February 6 and Thursday, February 7 FLEX DAYS

DLT: 1. I can use evidence from a variety of sources to support or refute opinions in a debate.

2. I can make inferences about character based upon a writer’s direct and indirect characterization.

3. I can identify idioms in a text and explain what they literally mean.

2. Journal: What does Manti Te’o have to do with our novel?

3. Vocabulary through Context work #15

4. Take the WFA

5. Read in Schwa until everyone finishes. Get to the end of Chapter 10 by Friday.

6. Watch Catfish “blurbs”

7. Debate over issues in the Te’o articles: Can someone find true love online? Is it better to be “visible” or “invisible” at the beginning of relationships? Do you think that Te’o knew that Lennay Kekua was a fake or do you think he is innocent?
