Welcome toour

Before and After School Clubs

Turvey Before and After School Clubs provide before and after school care and activities for children aged 3 years upwards. The clubs are held at Turvey Pre-school which is based in The Reading Room on the High Street. The clubs primarily meet the needs of children and families attending TurveyPrimary School and Turvey Pre-school. The clubs run during term-time only.

We offer a high standard of quality care with friendly and welcoming staff, and stimulating, fun child-led activities. At our clubs the children’s happiness and welfare is our priority. The children have access to a range of activities, toys and equipment and are able to enjoy free play, choosing for themselves just what to do. The children are free to play as they wish, within the boundaries they set, indoors and outdoors in all weathers, and times of year. We have a play area to the rear of our building and a garden area to the front.

Please be aware that messy play may be part of what the children choose to do. This may include painting, glue, mud kitchen and water play. We do of course offer aprons/tabards to go over clothes and encourage children to take care of their clothes. If you wish, you can send a change of clothes for your child to play in.

The children are supervised at all times by our caring staff, whom you may know from the pre-school. They are there to support and help the children as needed. We encourage the children to have a voice in their club, and include them in any discussions and decisions about rules and boundaries, activities to do in future and possible new purchases. We encourage and support them in resolving any issues, should they occur.

We encourage healthy eating at our clubs through the breakfast and light snacks we offer, and we can also cater for special dietary needs.

The clubs are governed by Playwork Principles which support a child’s right to play and to direct their own play. The clubs are registered with Ofsted and we have good links with Bedford Borough. We are pro active in offering and supporting staff with relevant training as we believe this enhances the quality of what we offer. All staff have training in paediatric first aid, safeguarding and behaviour management.

Before School Club

This starts from 7 45 am and breakfast is availableuntil 8 15am. Breakfast selection includes cereal, toast or bread, fruit and milk or water to drink. Not all children choose to have breakfast but those who do choose what they have. We then tidy up and get ready to leave at 8 30-8 35 am. A walking bus takes children to school; pre-school children also join this and then return to pre-school. Quiet, non-messy activities are on offer at this club, including reading, drawing, puzzles, table-top games, small scale construction. Cost £4.50 (September 2017).

After School Club

A walking bus brings children from TurveyPrimary to this club. A light snack is offeredwith fruit and drinks. Again this is based on healthy eating and children choose what they eat, and indeed whether they want to have snack or not. Activities are as for the Before School Club plus more, including role play, imaginative play, small and large scale construction, indoor/outdoor play, games, arts and crafts. Activities may include some more messy ones, such as painting and gluing, or mud kitchen. We also offer a quieter area for children who want this. It all depends on what the children choose to do, or ask for.

Tea-time snacks offer variety and some examples are given below:

  • Bagels with cream cheese and tomatoes + fruit + drink
  • Crackers or rice cakes with cheese + cucumber/tomato + fruit + drink
  • Pitta/breadsticks with hoummus and vegetable sticks (carrot/pepper/cucumber)+ fruit + drink
  • Toasted teacakes + fruit + drink
  • Cheese on toasted crumpets + fruit + drink
  • Wraps with cheese/ham + fruit + drink
  • Soup with bread roll + fruit + drink

Drinks would usually be water or weak squash in the afternoons. The above is not an exhaustive list and other snacks may be offered. We also involve the children in making choices/suggestions as to what we will have. Sometimes they may be involved by making mini-pizzas or sandwiches.

It’s possible to book a one hour only slot until 4 30 pm and the latest pick-up time is 6 pm. Cost £4.50to 4 30 pm, £11.25 (September 2017) until 6 pm. There is of course flexibility in this for you to pick up at a time that suits you, and you can vary this if that is what you need. The latest pick-up time is always 6 pm. Late pick-ups (after 4 30pm or 6 pm depending on what is booked) incur further charges (see later).

Ad hoc sessions

To do this simply get in touch and ask if we have space for the day/date you require. If we can, we will fit your child in. A registration form will need to be completed and received by Before & After School Club before your child attends.

If your booking is for an After School Club, we ask that you let TurveyPrimary School know (if they attend there). This is so they will be included in the walking bus that day. Please also make sure your child knows what they are doing that day.

Ad hoc sessions are invoiced each half term and payable immediately.

Changing or cancelling your child’s attendance

If you need to make changes to the days or times your child/children attend, please let us know as soon as you can. If you want to increase their attendance, it may depend on availability.

If you wish to cancel your child’s place, a minimum of 4 weeks’ written notice is required so please let us know as soon as you can. Fees will be payable where we are not given 4 weeks’ notice of cancellation of a regular booked place.

If an ad hoc session is cancelled within 24 hours of the planned attendance, fees will still be payable for the session.
