BALL FOUR……

……Because, sometimes a walk is as good as a hit!

May 8, 2015

Parent & Sacred Heart Family,

Season is in full swing, weather has been beautiful, and things are rolling along quite well. We have had some great things take place at the complex the past week…..100+ Dozen Krispy Kreme Donuts distributed, an unassisted triple play in Boys Instructional, and even a win for the Rockhounds! A great week all in all. Please see below for some carry over news and some new important items. Thanks.

BASEBALL 7 YEAR OLD TRYOUTS:

Tryouts for the 7 year olds will be Sunday, May 17th at 5:00 on CYO2. Please plan to arrive by 4:30 to register and warm up. Look for more information from your sons coach in the upcoming weeks.

TRENTON THUNDER NIGHT:

Orders are due ASAP…..please turn them into the Snack Bar – there is a folder in one of the many drawers. If you cannot get to the Snack Bar, please e-mail Joe Kwiatkowski at with your order. Tickets are only $11 and it is always a fun night to get out and enjoy a nice cold beverage at a ball game.

SACRED HEART CYO FAN SHOP :

Mother’s Day is Sunday…..don’t let your Mom be the only Mom on the block without a brand new SH Tee Shirt or Hoody. And it is never too early to take care of the Dad’s too…..Father’s Day will be here before you know it! Every Dad needs a nice, slimming SH Tee to rock at the fields……on-line store is open, so don’t get shut out -

MENCHIE’S NIGHT:

Thank you to all who came out for Menchies Night….it was a huge success. Great to see so many families there enjoying the nice weather and supporting the league. Although it was really very uncool that they took away the Cheesecake Yogurt right before our night there…..very uncool!

PLAY IT FORWARD:

This year, thanks to Melissa MacArthur, we will be running a “Play it Forward” program designed to help get the best use out of baseball and softball equipment that we may have grown out of. Please see below for the details and thanks again to Melissa for spear heading this program. We wil begin this program on Saturday, May 23rd.

This year the Sacred Heart CYO family will be starting a donation initiative to help families save money on equipment. Every year, as your child grows, you need to purchase new equipment for each sport they play. The costs can add up drastically. While the cost of equipment and registration fees can’t be avoided, we hope to be able to provide gently used items such as cleats, gloves, helmets, bats, heart guards and other baseball/softball accessories to any family wishing to benefit from this.

Please consider wiping down and donating any gear you may have for a great cause!

We will be accepting all donated items at the snack bar beginning Saturday May 23rd and each consecutive Saturday thereafter until playoff season is complete. Once we organize items, we will determine a “shopping day”prior to next season for anyone wishing to select item(s).

Thank you for paying it forward!

RAFFLE TICKETS????:

Raffle tickets are FINALLY here and will be available in the snack bar tomorrow. We are going to push the drawing back to Friday, May 22nd. All raffles must be turned into the Snack bar by next Saturday, May 16th. Details are on a separate attachment and will be posted in the Document Center.

CAPITAL PROJECTS:

We have had a great season thus far when it comes to fund-raising, so now the question is what do we do with the money we raised? We have a few ideas to improve our facilities, but are always interested in hearing ideas from parents and coaches. If you have an idea that you think may benefit our league, please pass it along. I know everybody is thinking lights…..probably not going to happen anytime soon. There is a lot more involved than just putting up light poles and we currently do not have the capacity to get lights. Also, unfortunately, a “Biergarten” or Beer Garden for the non-Germans out there……is a very unlikely possibility too….although that would be ideal! Hope to hear some creative ideas!

TEAM PICTURES:

Always a fun process…..never easy!! As I explained at last night’s parent meeting, many of the team pictures are a little mixed up. We have many packets that have the right kid in the individual picture, but the wrong team in the team photo. I am guessing that most people do not want random pictures of teams that do not include your son or daughter, so please let Joe Kwiatkowski know if you need a new team picture. I am sure he would love to hear from a lot of you –

COACH/VOLUNTEER OF THE WEEK:

We actually had several candidates and I hope they keep coming in. It is so nice to hear about so many great people out there volunteering their time to make our league a little bit better. This week’s Volunteer of the Week is: Melissa Dick – team Mom for the U8 Tar Heels

Melissa alwaystakes care of all of the snack stuff for the kids each game and she also helps out with the other "stuff" that no one notices. She has escorted kids to the bathroom when nature has called and she makes sure they make it to their cars when they have to leave early from practice. Melissa just has that caring way about her where she is just looking out for the welfare and safety of the kids all the time. The night our team had snack bar duty, she took care of all the kids snack orders and then covered the snack bar. When her first shift duty was up she and her husband (shout out to Andy!) stayed in there for a portion of the second shift to cover for another parent until they could get there. She never complained and always has a smile on her face when she shows up to practice or a game. It's team parents like her that make our program of volunteers run smoothly while keeping things in line! Thanks Melissa (and Andy)!

SPONSOR OF THE WEEK:

MJ Corporation in Mount Laurel, NJ. MJ takes care of all of our uniforms and equipment needs. They are also a Platinum Sponsor and just as soon as we figure out how to hang their giant banner, they will proudly displayed at the CYO Complex. The are a family run operation and provide SHCYO with great support and have always been a great partner. If you are in need of any type of embroidery, screen printing, etc., I would highly recommend MJ Corp in Mount Laurel, NJ. Ask for Tim Trotman – 856-778-0055

WEEKLY PAYER PROFILE:

I promise we will get to the U8 Regional Champs Softball team but we do not have info for all the girls who stayed in CYO just yet. I was hoping to have it today, but I still do not have their info…..so, no player profile this week as I was kind of counting on having the U8 team’s info to share. Hopefully we can do that next week….if not, then Fumbs, San Diego Chicken and Dodo…it is your turn!

Thank you to all the people who continue to make Sacred Heart such a great place to play baseball and softball!

Have a great weekend!

Brian Fifield -President, SHCYO
