“Paint a Masterpiece”
President’s Message . . .Where Do We Go From Here?
At the PA Division Meeting in May, Marilynne Donnelly, PA Division President chose as her theme “Paint A Masterpiece”. She has challenged us to add our “brushstrokes” to the IAAP masterpiece. We must have the desire and commitment to contribute to the success of IAAP.
At the International Convention in July, Ollie Jo Bozeman CAP chose as her theme “Gateways to Growth” and challenged us to “make a commitment to participate in this year’s recruitment and retention plans.” She reminded us that growth is everyone’s responsibility. It takes all of us working together to accomplish association growth.
In line with the above two themes and objectives, I have chosen for the theme of the Beaver Valley Chapter to determine “Where Do We Go From Here?” I ask each and every one of you to really concentrate on bringing just one new person into our Chapter. We could double our Membership by June, 2003. What a wonderful goal that would be for us to reach! It is up to us to make our own future. Sacrifices may have to be made and disappointments may come but we must remain focused.
We will succeed and we will be worthy of that success when it comes to us.
I look forward to serving as your Chapter President this year and welcome your ideas, opinions, and comments to help make the Beaver Valley Chapter the Best in PA.

WAYS & MEANS
Along with our annual summer picnic in August, we had a very successful Party Lite Candle Party at the home of Judy McEwen. Thanks to all of you who attended and to those of you who placed an order. We earned 25% of all sales and netted a profit of $150.54 to start off the 2002-2003 year. Party Lite has a wonderful array of candles and quite a selection of Holiday decorations. We had some great food and a whole lot of fun! Christine Sandusky, our consultant, enjoyed doing this party for us.
Vivian Mahli will host a Princess House Crystal Party for the next Chapter fundraiser on October 7th from 6:00 to 8:30p.m. Please feel free to invite a friend or two to come with you. You may R.S.V.P. to Vivian at her current e-mail address . Directions to Vivian’s house will be available at our next meeting on September 24th. Princess House Crystal makes won- derful Christmas gifts. Start your shopping early this year!
Of course, we will once again be selling Sarris Christmas Candy. Brochures and order sheets will be distributed soon.
HOSPITALITY
It was decided that this year the Chapter Dinner Meetings would be held at a single location rather than at various restaurants. Greg Powell’s Rivertowne Restaurant in Rochester has been chosen for our meetings this year.
Our Hospitality Committee has confirmed all meeting dates and Greg Powell has planned some wonderful menus for our dinner meetings.
Dinner reservations must be placed by the Friday before our scheduled meeting.
Cost of the dinners includes coffee, tea, iced tea, gratuity and tax. Any other beverage or dessert may be purchased by the individual.
We will meet in the restaurant’s private downstairs banquet facility.
EXECUTIVE NIGHT
Be prepared to submit the names and addresses of those you would like to invite to our October meeting when we recognize our executives and honor our past presidents. A wine and cheese reception is being planned previous to the dinner. The Program Committee will be sending invitations to your special guest or guests. This is a wonderful networking opportunity for the executives as well as having them experience first hand what IAAP is all about.
Negotiations are in progress for a dynamic speaker who will deliver a program of interest to both you and the other special guests. If your executive is unable to attend, please invite a mentor, parent, co-worker, prospective member, or friend. The speaker will be announced at the September meeting.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS
Do you know when you will be celebrating your anniversary? Your IAAP anniversary, that is. You know, the month you joined the Beaver Valley Chapter. Can’t remember?
Well, a little bird has provided the Membership Committee with your anniversary date. Because you are important to us and everyone likes to receive presents on special occasions, we have a token of appreciation for each of you to be given at the meeting in your anniversary month. But—YOU MUST BE PRESENT to receive it!
Remember, don’t be shy about inviting guests and prospective members to our meeting. We’ll also have a small gift for your guest.

“Perhaps he most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not.”
--Aldous Huxley
EXCITING PROGRAMS PLANNED
“Invest yourself in your education. There’s nothing better.”
--Sylvia Porter
Continuing education is vitally important to the administrative professional in today’s workplace. In striving to meet the educational needs of our members this year, the Program Committee is focusing on providing a variety of one-hour educational presentations designed to keep you on the cutting edge of your profession.
Kent Parkhill will spark your creative spirit with his exciting presentation, “Looking at Old Things Through New Eyes” at our September 24 meeting at Gregg Powell’s Rivertowne Restaurant.
Kent will return in November and January for a two-pat series which will explore the dynamics of the “inner” and “outer” professional. Betty Tolbert will join us in March with her new inspirational program, “I Can Sing a Rainbow.”
In February, the 2002-2003 Pennsylvania Division President, our own Marilynne Donnelly, will give us a sneak preview of the masterpiece that is being painted by the Pennsylvania Division.
Another two-part program series is being planned for the spring, as well as a “knock your socks off” seminar in April featuring Andrew Steed. If you were at Sunday’s business session of the Pennsylvania Division Annual Meeting, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to be a part of Andy’s refreshing and compelling presenta-tion style—full of laughter and heaps of wisdom.
The entire palette of programs and guest speakers will be confirmed and announced at the September meeting. CEU’s and recertification points are planned for both of the two-part program series and the seminar.
As our chapter seeks to rebuild its membership, your attendance and support is needed at our chapter meetings. Business will be conducted at the Board Meeting, not at the dinner meetings. Board Meetings, held on the third Monday of each month, are open to all members. Chapter news and committee reports will be published in the newsletter.
It is the Board’s desire to meet your continuing educational needs by providing top-notch programs that will assist you in your professional and personal growth. Mark your calendars now for the fourth Tuesday of each month--6 p.m. at Gregg Powell’s Rivertowne Restaurant.

THANK YOU
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Beaver Valley Chapter Officers, Committee Leaders and members for supporting me during my 2001-2002 tenure as President. I cannot thank each and every one of you enough. What an exciting year it was hosting the 50th Pennsylvania Division meeting! Also, thank you for electing me 2002-2003 President; due to personal issues I am, unable to fulfill my term.
As members of the Beaver Valley Chapter, I strongly encourage you to support the Beaver Valley Chapter this year. The only way to grow is to say yes and step out of that box; you will not be disappointed.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
