The Rt. 3 corridor project final phase is getting underway. Impacts on traffic and water service were discussed. Traffic will be impacted during the construction period. However it is anticipated that the impact will be minimal most of the time. Some individual water services will be out to allow new valves to be installed. The outage periods will be in the range of a few hours and the crews will be working with individual property owners during those periods.
The Abbott Road traffic and dust concerns relating to the construction were addressed. Residents who experience problems are encouraged to contact Chris Theriault at the construction trailer which will be at the Manor Fire Station. General project information and updates will be at: http://www.onconcord.com/index.aspx?NID=1384. Updates will also be in the weekly City Manager’s newsletter on this page: http://www.onconcord.com/Index.aspx?NID=288.
Guest Speaker: Heather Shank, Assistant City Planner.
Heather Shank presented information about the recently completed report from the consultants Penacook Vision Plan. She discussed form based zoning codes as a tool for creating growth in existing neighborhoods and villages. The Penacook Vision Plan, (click the link or go to http://nh-concord.civicplus.com/Index.aspx?NID=879) brought a lively discussion and some concerns that the results didn’t fully reflect the intention of the participants. Heather felt that some additional input would allow the report to be fine tuned to be more responsive to the village’s residents wishes.
Guest Speaker: Deb Cuddahy, Executive Director, Penacook Community Center.
Deb updated us on the plans to expand the Penacook Community Center to a new campus on Village Street. The Community Center now serves over 11,000 individuals each year. There is still more demand and the current facility cannot be expanded to meet those needs. The PCC would need to acquire three properties on Village St including a city owned lot. That would allow for a new facility in the 30 – 40 thousand square feet range which would allow the center to meet current needs and add both new programs and serve additional people. (Since the Saturday meeting the City Council voted to approve the sale of the lot to PCC, removing one obstacle)
Watch the PCC website at http://www.penacookcommunitycenter.org/index.html and also http://penacook.org/index.html for updates as the project moves forward.
