ATHLETICS NEW ZEALAND

Proposal to change NZ Cross Country and Road Championships Regulations
Following the 2015 NZ Cross Country Championships the Rules Committee has received submissions proposing several changes to the Regulations governing the Cross Country and Road Championships.

Link to full proposal
There are four main aspects to these proposals:
1. A change to a distance of 10 km for the Men and Women Cross Country events, in line with the recent (November 2015) IAAF change for these grades (IAAF Rule 250.4).
2. Introduction of a reduced distance of 6 km for Masters Men (M65+) Cross Country.
3. A reduction in the Centre Team size for Men from 10 to 8 athletes (as for all other grades) and a reduction in the counting members from 6 to 4 (as for all other grades).
4. Clarification of the Regulations with respect to post-entry changes to the composition of Centre Teams.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tonight as stated elsewhere in this newsletter this is the second night of our club championships. New members may not be aware of how the championships are scored above the under-age grade. They are scored on an age-graded percentage table as per the Grubb calculator 2006 WMA factors, with 2015 update) allocating performances against world standards for each age, i.e. (world standard)/(time achieved), or for field (distance achieved)/(world standard). Ages taken for the series will all be taken as at 3 February 2016. Points are 10 for the best performance percentage, 7 for second, 5 for third, 3 for fourth, 1 for all others. The best eight events of the possible 14 events, of points allocated of which at least two must be field events are counted, the club championship going to the athlete with the highest points over the best qualifying eight events. That is, there is just the one club champion for each gender not champions for each individual event. It often results in a close finish right to the last night.

WERNER SCHMIDT - Mexico

February 6 I entered and completed the Los Cabos Half Marathon in a time of 2:51:58. It was my first attempt after three years of health issues. I was pleased to have completed it. Was the only participant who made an attempt race walk it. I did wear the Calliope singlet so members can be assured that Calliope has been seen to be present in one event in Mexico. The event was measured and was run under the Mexican Athletics Federation body. In many ways not so different to how we run it back home.
It was a lot of fun, with the locals cheering on every participant. The local police, Federales and even the army helped to keep runners safe from traffic and also in the clean up from the drink stations. Another thing, was the use of timing chips that did not need to be returned.

Best wishes to all at the Club.
