Widefield Water & Sanitation District is located in the southern portion of Colorado Springs, Colorado and is dedicated to providing the highest quality of water to our community and our environment. The District is currently seeking a Class 1 Water Distribution Operator (or higher), will consider entry level trainee applicants. This position will repair water main leaks, service fire hydrants, service valves, read meters, replace meters, take samples, respond to customer service requests, operate heavy equipment, feed chemicals, perform maintenance, and operate the domestic water system. ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

Ahighschooldiplomaorgeneraleducationdegree(GED)is required. A Colorado Class “B” CDL (“A” CDL will be given

preference), and at least two-years of verifiable experience operating a back-hoe is preferred at the time of applying.

Provencustomerserviceskillsandtheabilitytoworkproductively withminimaldirectsupervision.

Familiarity with SCADA controls and basic skills with Windows based programs including Word and Excel.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The District is seeking a Water Distribution Operator (or higher) with 1 yearofexperience workingforawaterandsewerutilityorcity with proven knowledge of thefollowing:

•Proven customer service skills (internal and external).

•Ability to use sound judgement.

•Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) are essential.

•Able to effectively work closely with employees and other District Departments.

•Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, andvolume.

•Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

The WaterDistribution Operator must possess or be able to obtain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and be insurable under the District’s standards.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Operator reports to the Water Department Supervisor/ Manager, but must be able to work productively with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Provide exemplary customer service to all individuals by demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding and responsive,fair,courteousandrespectful,andtoactivelyparticipate inmaintainingapositivecustomerserviceenvironment.

•Interpretandimplementlaboratory,mechanical,andoperational data.

•Responsibleforwaterqualityandflowthroughplantandwells, adjustflowratestokeepupwithdemand.

•Monitors equipment and treatment process.

•Monitor water quality constituent levels to meet state and federal standards and adjust facility operations accordingly.

•Performs preventative and corrective maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.

•Completes basic water plant and systems operations.

•Prepares work orders for work as needed or scheduled.

•Locates,maintains,andrepairswaterservices,valves,curbboxes, mains, andhydrants.

•Prepares and obtains data for operation reports.

•Performs lab work and calibrates lab equipment.

•Respondtoandresolvedifficultandsensitivecitizenorstaff inquiries and complaints related to assigned area of responsibility and recommend correctiveaction.

•Assist in a variety of section operations; perform special projects and assignments as requested.

•Provides routine documentation monitoring of facilities. Monitors distribution system utilizing the SCADA system.

•Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

•Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends.

•Must be in on-call rotation.

•Must respond to and for emergencies.

ABOUT THE WIDEFIELD WATER & SANITATION DISTRICT

Background:

TheWidefieldWater SanitationDistrict(District)islocatedin ElPasoCounty,Colorado.TheDistrictisapoliticalsubdivision of the State of Colorado and a body corporate with all the powers of a public orquasi-municipal entity.

History:

Widefield Homes Water Company, organized as a Colorado corporation on June 14, 1979, provided water and wastewater services to the area until being converted to a District. The District was formed on May 17, 1996 to provide water and wastewater service to the public within the service area.

At the time of the District’s creation in May 1996, the water service area consisted of about2,250acres and servedapproximately 4,800 accounts. The wastewater service area consisted of about 2,400 acres and served approximately 5,400accounts.

Service Area:

Water and wastewater service is provided to unincorporated areas of El Paso County (Widefield and Security communities) andtheCityofFountain.TheDistrictprovidesservicetoaccounts withbothwaterwastewater,wateronly,andwastewateronly.

TheDistrict’scustomerbaseisprimarilyresidential,representing 98% of all accounts. The remaining 2% of accounts are commercial. There are no industrial accounts within theDistrict. Occasionally, wholesale water is provided to a neighboring agency. A population of about 16,000 is served within the water boundaries. For wastewater, a population of about 21,700 is served. At the end of 2014, the District served about 6,795 water accounts and about 7,377 wastewateraccounts.

Since formation of the District, the service areas of water and wastewater have each increased. The increased acreage resulted from the development of areas of Cradlan Property (water wastewater), Lorson Ranch (water wastewater), SouthparkTech Center (wastewater), Mesa Ridge (water), and

Rolling Hills (water wastewater) being added to the District. The District anticipates 19,000 new homes will be built in these areas.

With the development additions, the water service area has increased by 4,366 acres, bringing the total water service area acreagetoabout6,616acres.Thewastewaterserviceareahas increased by 4,042 acres, bringing to total wastewater service to about 6,442 acres.
