Role Purpose

Asa CompanyAccountantin BDO Northern Ireland, you will play an integral role within our Finance Team. Working with the Finance Director, the Company Accountant has responsibility for preparing management accounts and other duties central to the efficient running of the finance function.

Due to the nature of the role, a flexible approach to work is required in order to facilitate the needs of the business.

You will be expected to consistently demonstrate core BDO values and the required standard of competency for the level of this role.

PrincipalAccountabilities
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts for BDO Northern Ireland, completion of balance sheet reconciliations, and provision of analytical explanations where necessary.
  • Responsibility for the general ledger records and production of monthly management accounts of BDO Outsourcing NI Limited.
  • Compilation of detailed and supplementary financial information using Microsoft office including Excel on a daily/weekly/monthly/annual basis, for circulation to the partners and rest of the firm as applicable.
  • Working closely with the Finance Director on detailed budgeting, forecasting and KPI reporting.
  • Cash management and bank management;including bank lodgements, weekly bank reconciliations, analysing and processing credit cards, reconciliation of and posting cash to the Practice Management System (STAR), review of staff expenses, review and posting of petty cash.
  • Working with the Partners / Job Managersto ensure adequate focus on the collection of debtors.
  • Preparation and completion of quarterly VAT Returns.
  • Preparation of monthly salaries in Sage along with PAYE, payroll, pension submissions and payments.
  • Completion of Government Surveys / BDO International Surveys as required.
  • Provide point of contact for Facilities maintenance and record keeping.
  • Review and continually seek to improve all systems of work within remit.
  • Be flexible, willing and open to take on tasks and challenges as would reasonably be expected within the Finance Team.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified or part qualified in a recognised accountancy qualification and/orextensive experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent numerical skill and attention to detail with ability to analyse and interpret data.
  • The ability to work with a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • Strong Microsoft excel knowledge to extract, manipulate, reconcile and present information.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload to meet deadlines.
  • To be flexible, open to change and work as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proactive and positive with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Commitment to continuous improvement.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Whilst not essential it would be advantageous for the candidate to have previous working experience in an Accountancy or Professional Services Firm.
