Title of Job: Library Media Intern

Course Objectives:

1.The student librarians will acquire information literacy competencies and lifelong learning skills including the ability to: access information efficiently & effectively; evaluate information critically & competently; use information accurately & creatively; be an independent learner & pursue information related to personal interests; appreciate literature & other creative expressions of information.

2.Students will acquire a positive work ethic and attitude toward the workplace and general job skills as they perform administrative duties.

3.Students will acquire pre-vocational skills while performing tasks.

4.Students become competent users of information technology while acquiring skills that are cross-discipline in nature.

-- Strengthening all these skills by assisting peers and staff in a practical context. –

a. Performing secretarial responsibilities including data entry, filing, and photocopying.

b. Processing incoming orders including checking packing slips, covering book jackets,labeling and stamping materials and processing incoming periodicals.

c. Operating the circulation desk which includes checking in and checking out materials, shelving returned materials, compiling and distributing overdue reports and notices.

d. Maintaining the LMC collection by reading the shelves and files, mending and repairing books, assisting with inventory.

e. Performing general clerical duties such as delivering equipment and materials to staff members, answering phones using proper telephone etiquette and signing in patrons.

f. Organizing work in order of priorities.

g. Organizing and handling materials efficiently.

h. Preparing a notebook of instructions and examples of desired office procedures.

b. Assisting in the technology and instructional media responsibilities such as assisting with the location of and use of materials and equipment.

c. Assisting in maintenance and minor repair of equipment.
