Conservation Specialist

Salary $60,531.87 - $69,104.56 annually, plus isolation allowance of $53.82 bi-weekly

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy is responsible for: leading programs that maintain and enhance the quality of the Province’s water, land and air; maintaining the relative abundance and biodiversity of the Province’s ecological systems inside and outside of protected areas; and managing the Province’s parks and recreation program delivery.

Parks and Protected Areas (PPA) Regional Operations is the delivery arm for BC Parks, including all front country and backcountry recreation services and is the primary interface with First Nations, parks facility operators and stakeholders.

As the Conservation Specialist, you will develop, coordinate and provide expert advice and guidance for ecosystem conservation, restoration and management in parks and protected areas. Supporting your region, you will identify key conservation management actions for Annual Management Plans, and provide input, information and expertise to support the Parks and Protected Areas section and into management planning processes led by regional planners. In this role, you will identify and communicate the role the park plays in landscape level conservation initiatives, liaising with the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development ecosystems staff on broad level conservation objectives and how parks fit within those strategies.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • University degree in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • Experience in conducting environmental monitoring and assessments. Preference may be given to applicants with 2 or more years of this experience.
  • Registered (or immediately eligible to register within six months of employment) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology.
