BAY AREA GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION
GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 9, 2009
ATTENDING: 31
President Watson Holyfield opened the meeting with prayer a 7:00 PM. He welcomed members we hadn’t seen in awhile; the Brinkleys, the Wheatleys, the McDaniels and crew.
Watson read the February birthdays. We sang to Board Member Tootsie Dann.
Jim McDaniel gave the first mini concert. He sang “Tell The World That Jesus Saves”, “Yesterday’s Battles”, and “Love Called My Name”. Jim really blessed us with his powerful voice.
Treasurer Sally Currey gave the January Treasurer’s Report. David Currey moved it be accepted as read, Jim McDaniel seconded and all approved.
Wilma Morrison reported the next Trumpet will be the March/April issue. The deadline for information will be February 25th. Even though the January/February issue was mailed on January 2nd, the Post Office was slow in delivering it to the outlying areas.
Joe Kotal reported the Showcases are filled through June. He said the January showcase at Highlands Baptist was very good. The next showcase will be at the Church of the Nazarene in Alvin where Scott Cundiff is the Pastor. It will be on the 21st. The March 14th showcase will be at WhisperingMeadowsBaptistChurch near Dayton, TX.
Prayer requests were given for Joe Kotal, having aneurism surgery at Methodist Hospital on the 17th, Mildred Deal had a blood transfusion this week, Kenneth Courtney had a heart attack and is doing better, our waitress Ellie’s husband is ill, Art Willard, Ellis Weeks fell again today, Lois needs our prayers, James Galloway had a stroke, Debbie Holyfield has health problems, and Mike Huber had surgery today. A praise report for 50 years of marriage for David and Sally Currey was celebrated this past weekend. Ray Walker prayed for these.
BAGMA’s 16th Annual Spring Singing Convention will be April 3rd and 4th. JoAnn Kotal has the schedule filled. However, stand-by’s are being listed in case they are needed. The Singing Ministry of 1st Baptist Church of North Channel will man the food booth again this year. Deadline for ads to go into the booklet is the March 9th meeting. Checks for the booklet are to be made to Lois Weeks. The ads are $20, $25, and $50. The center pages are still available. Angie McDaniel will be our Guard. Members should dress appropriately and dues must be current before singing.
The Ladies Luncheon scheduled for last September is still not rescheduled. Debbie Holyfield is planning a 2nd Quarterly Ladies Luncheon on Friday, March 6th, at Texas Seafood Restaurant on I-10 East, just West of Mercury. It is open for all ladies in BAGMA and guests. It will begin at 11:30 AM. Please contact Debbie or sign the sign in sheet tonight if you can attend.
The BAGMA Picnic is tentatively set for June 13th at 1st Baptist Church of North Channel. More information on this will be given at the next meetings.
Watson reported the Board voted at their meeting to disburse with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting at the General Meetings. They will be approved by the Board and then posted on the website. This is to streamline our meetings. Members are to advise a Board Member of comments before the next Board Meeting.
The Board also voted to increase the monthly donation to KJIC from $50 to $75. Then at the end of the year, we will figure 10% of BAGMA’s income and give any difference to KJIC’s Sharathon in January the next year.
The Board agreed to send a “Showcase Helps” sheet to the Showcase Hosts. This will help the singings to move smoother. Only one sound system will be used for all the groups/soloists. There have been too many sound problems when using more than one system. All this will be arranged ahead of time to avoid confusion.
Watson mentioned several groups are looking for singers: New Psalms, Gospel Messengers, Southern Plainsmen Quartet, and Crimson Heart.
Up coming singings: Brian Free and Assurance at 1st Baptist Church of North Channel on Friday, February 20th, (love offering); Gold City at Memorial Baptist on February 28th, ($10), Footprints and Zack Magnuson at the Grayson Center on Tuesday, February 17th, (free food); Southern Plainsmen Quartet at Cypress Point Baptist on March 21st, (love offering). The Weeks Reunion on February 28th has been cancelled.
One Desire gave the last mini concert singing “Thank You Lord For Your Blessings On Me”, “Do You Know How It Feels?”, “He’ll See You Through” and “He Was Thinking Of Me”. Jim, Angie, Sarah and Alford put a lot of feeling into their songs.
Jim McDaniel led the group in our theme song “Standing On The Solid Rock” and then dismissed in prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Wilma Morrison, Secretary
