BATTING FOCUS – Staying in the hitting zone
BATTING DRILLS:
Drill #1: Tee Work – Triple Tee (2 Tee Drill)
Swings: 75 Swings
Purpose: This drill helps batters learn how to stay long through the ball and how to drive the ball up the middle.
Execution: Set up two tees, so that the back tee is at your contact point for hitting up the middle, the next teeis lined up in a row in front of the back tee, and all the tees are about 6 inches apart (think this piece of paper is 8.5 inches). Place one ball on top of each of the tees. The batter makes contact with the back ball and tries to hit the ball directly into the ball in front, which then knocks off the second ball. If the batter hits the first ball square and stays long through it, she will have a good chance of making the next two balls travel up the middle as well. The next two balls provide a visual aid for keeping the barrel in the zone a long time.
Drill #2: Tee Work – Single Tee- Push Point
Swings: 150 Swings
Set up a tee, and work on push point drills SLOWLY. Everything this week at the tee is in SLOW motion… 50 swings, where you stop your bat at contact. 50 swings where you stop your bat that the point (straight with arms extended.. watch you are not going too far over… 50 swings where you are going full swing – finish up… there should be no hitting of your back… really focus on staying long through the ball…
