Basic Tribal Fusion Makeup
TribalTique Belly Dance Company – Fort Collins
This is stage makeup, not daily wear. It needs to be applied heavily so that your face can be seen from a distance. When in doubt, add more! Choosing tasteful colors and sticking with a base of neutrals will keep the look classy and not clownish. All the elements outlined below are REQUIRED!!! – This means you have to have it on, NO EXCEPTIONS!
Brushes and Applicators:
Q-tips – for mistakes and applying fake eyelashes
Tissues – for mistakes and blotting lipstick
Fluffy Brush – for blush and powder
Small Angle Brush for eyeshadows and glitter – I like #263 by Mac Cosmetics
Eyelash Curler to curl natural lashes before applying faux lashes (it helps so much)
Face:
Foundation on entire face including eyelids – I like PureStay Powder Foundation by Mabeline
Powder to set Foundation – I like colorless/translucent pressed powder by Jane
Bronzer to highlight face, especially under harsh stage lights – I like Prescriptives
Blush applied heavy and dark on or below cheekbones – I like to use Ben Nye Lumiere powder in Golden Apricot
Lips:
Lip Liner in a dark reddish brown applied to outline and fill lips (trust me)
Lipstick in a dark red, you can go more of a brown red, purple red, cherry or burgundy depending on your complection but we’re talking “pin-up pout” – I like Christian Dior’s Lipstick in #960 – Red Garnet
Red Glitter to dab on top of lipstick – I like Ben Nye Sparklers in Red
Eyes:
Faux Eyelashes in black, long and thick (the more ornate eyelashes with glitter and sparkle are lovely on stage but harder to apply and wear; first time users, go simple) – I like #62 from most companies
Eyelash Glue in clear – I like LashGrip or Ardell
Mascara in black on faux lashes and bottom lashes – I like Super Thick Lash by Covergirl, or Ben Nye’s Mascara, Telescopic my Loreal is my new fav, amazing!
Eyebrow Pencil to define and darken eyebrows in brown or black depending on your coloring – I like to use my mascara or Perfect Blend Pencil/Crayon by CoverGirl, It has a smudger built right in!
Eyeshadow in black or very dark brown over entire eyelid up to crease, flaring out at outer corner and lining under lower lid (for different looks we could do a bright color instead)– I like Ben Nye Lumiere Powder in Starry Night Sparkle applied with Ben Nye Liquiset for the ultimate sweatproof look or Beauty Marked by Mac
HighlightEyeshadow in white, silver or pale gold applied above dark shade under eyebrow and at inner corner of eyes – I like Ben Nye Lumiere powder in Ice or Gold Ice or Eye Shimmer by the Body Shop.
Liquid Eyeliner in black outlining the ENTIRE eye from tear duct flaring out to outer corner and along the entire lower lid – I like Liquid Pencil by CoverGirl on Onyx for easy application (more like a felt tip pen) but Graftobian’s liquid liner can’t be beat for intensity.
OPTIONAL – Eye Glitter accents along lashline, over entire lid, etc. – I like loose glitter (like Ben Nye Sparklers) applied with Liquiset or Aqua Glitter also by Ben Nye in copper or silver prism
Accent:
Bindi between eyebrows/on forehead – I like the ones I make or I like to stack a bunch of store bought ones to make a big statement
Spirit Gum/Spirit Gum Remover to glue bindis and gems to your face (eyelash glue doesn’t hold with the sweat) – I like Ben Nye Gum and Remover
OPTIONAL – other bindis, rhinestones, glitter or black eyeliner dot accents at corners of eyes, chin, etc.
