Breakdance Moves for Skills Test (Possible 30 Total Points)

For your skills test for this unit, you will choose a breakdance move from each of the six categories below. You will perform your routine to the class in groups of no more than six people.

A. Toprock (Need to choose at least one variation of toprock below):

1. Front (Hop with both feet together on count 1, cross to diagonal on count 2 with arms coming out to low diagonal, come back with feet together on count 3, then jump with feet back together on count 4) *Other option is to do a Top Rock Variation (Start with feet hip distance-Cross feet over on count 1, pivot turn around on count 2, jump feet back out hip distance on count 3 and repeat other way)

2. Back Toprock (Stepping back diagonal)

3. Side Toprock (Stepping side to side with body on slight diagonal)

4. Bounce Toprock-Adding a small jump (Front, Back or Side)

5. Front Kick or Side Kick Toprock (Stepping crossing on front diagonal with a kick of back leg or Side Kick-Kick out to side and then bend same leg back in and repeat on other side)

6. Front or Back Toprock with Spin

7. Freestyle Toprock (Using a combination of the above moves)

B. House Dance Steps (Need to choose at least two of the house dance moves below):

1. Running Man/Shuffle

2. Roger Rabbit/The Jerk

3. Heel/Toe

4. Body Wave

C. Downrock/Footwork/Floor Work (Need to choose at least one of the dance moves below):

1. 3 Step

2. 6 Step

3. CC’s

4. Helicopter

5. Kick Outs

D. Drops (Need to choose at least one of the drops below):

1. Direct Drop (Hinge down to floor)

2. Knee Drop

3. Spin Drop (Spin down to drop to floor)

E. Spin (Need to begin spin from 6-step or 3-Step):

Butt Spin (Start with 6 Step-Sit in straddle on count 4, swing right leg over to start spin on count 5, and cross right leg over left as if sitting crossed legged to spin on butt)

F. Freeze (Need to choose one of the freezes below-Must hold for at least 3 seconds):

1. Seated Freeze/Pose

2. Head and Shoulder Freeze

*Breakdance Routine-Toprock variation into a cross spin to a pop out on both sides, into house dance variations, down to a drop variation, into downrock variation, to a butt spin (must perform a 3-step or a 6-step to get into butt spin), into a freeze

BREAKDANCE SKILLS TEST RUBRIC

*The following rubric will be used to evaluate the breakdance skills above. This skills test is worth a possible 30 points.

5-Student always executes proper alignment and posture throughout each exercise, performs all exercises with proper weight distribution, performs each of the exercises with proper execution/form/placement of the body (head, arms, torso, legs, feet), performs all sequences maintaining appropriate rhythm and tempo with the music, maintains a high performance quality by dancing full out to the best of their abilities, performs all movement with a high level of hip hop technique, and performs the combination with no memory errors (Excellent Level)

4- Student executes proper alignment and posture throughout each exercise most of the time, performs most of the exercises with proper weight distribution, performs most of the exercises with proper execution/form/placement of the body (head, arms, torso, legs, feet), performs most of the sequences maintaining appropriate rhythm and tempo with the music, maintains a high performance quality by dancing full out to the best of their abilities, and performs the combination with no more than 2 memory errors (Developing Level)

3- Student executes proper alignment and posture throughout each exercise some of the time (inconsistent), performs some of the exercises with proper weight distribution, performs some of the exercises with proper execution/form/placement of the body (head, arms, torso, legs, feet), performs some of the sequences maintaining appropriate rhythm and tempo with the music (has some timing issues), maintains a high performance quality by dancing full out to the best of their abilities, and performs the combination with more than 2 memory errors (Advanced Beginning Level)

2- Student executes poor alignment and posture throughout most of the exercises, performs most of the exercises with poor weight distribution, performs most of the exercises with poor execution/form/placement of the body (head, arms, torso, legs, feet), performs most of the sequences with poor rhythm and tempo with the music, maintains a low level of performance quality by not dancing full out to the best of their abilities, and performs the combination with more than 2 memory errors (Beginning Level)
