Post title:HE Lecturerin Animal Science (0.8 post Maternity Cover)

Based at:Duchy College, Stoke Climsland

Reports to:Team Lead for Higher Education Animal Science

Responsible for: Academic and Support Staff as necessary

Grade/salary scale:CC_31 to CC_41 (£23156 to £28217)

Generic role of post:

The HELectureris responsible for formal education delivery and may be responsible for acting as Module Leader for specific HE modules, liaising with the Programme Manager regarding delivery, assessment and quality assurance of HE modules.

Specific duties:
  1. Deliver education and training, undertaking up to 880contact hours annually, to include lecturing, organisation and supervision ofpractical instruction and assessment, to a high professional standard. This may include evening and weekend teaching sessions, as appropriate.
  2. Produce and develop Higher Education teaching and learning materials as required, working to Awarding Organisation and Duchy College standards at all times.
  3. Setting and marking assessments to include written assignments, reports, projects, practical exercises, presentations, tests and examinations, working to Awarding Organisation standards. Act as a Module Leader for discrete Higher Education Moduleswithin Animal ScienceHEProgrammes and assist with
  • Programme selection, design, development, approval and currency
  • Programme promotional materials, marketing and recruitment
  • Leading and managing teams delivering a discrete module/modules
  • Assisting with efficient Programme organisation and administration
  • Assisting with student interviews, induction, care and support
  • Curriculum quality and standards, in conjunction with the HE Programme Manager and Team Lead for HE Animal Science
  • Internal verification and moderation
  • Participation in staff development (including industry-related CPD and HE-related personal development) and appraisal processes
  1. Assisting with development of the facilities and resources available for Animal Science teaching and with the management ofthese, as appropriate
  2. Assisting in the development of research within Animal Science and helping with co-ordination ofHE research projects.
  3. Attending evening and weekend meetings and teaching sessions as appropriate.
  4. Becoming actively involved in the life of the College and attending organised functions, including College promotional events.
  5. Any other duties as required as may, from time to time, be deemed appropriate to the level and grade of the post. This may involve cover, by agreement and consultation, for absent colleagues.
Person Specification
Qualifications

Essential:

  • Must have or be working towards a nationally approved Stage 3 teaching qualification (Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent).
  • Must have a Degree (Level 6) in an Animal Management/AnimalScience/Equine/Veterinary- related subject.

Desirable:

  • MSc or other Post Graduate qualification in an Animal Management/Animal Science/Equine/Veterinary- related subject.
Experience

Essential:

  • Relevant commercial, academic or vocational experience within the animal, equine or Veterinary industry
  • Minimum of two years successful teaching experience, including Higher Education
  • Willingness to engage in related scholarly activity.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience as a subject specialistin the delivery, assessment and verification of HEqualifications.
  • A proven track record in research within the field of Animal Science, Equine or Veterinary-related fields.

Terms and conditions of service:

Cornwall College full terms and conditions will be summarised in a contract of employment issued on appointment to the post.

This is a fixed term post for 12 months initially.
