Meeting Minutes for October 2, 2014

Executive Board Attendance: Rob Smilowitz, Louis Cohen, Brian Ferko, Tony Lauerman, Jeff Adams,
Commissioner/Director Attendance: Rob Garbaccio, Kevin Donovan, Eric Pelletier, Mike Simpson, Rich Morello, Joe Romanowski, Eric Brown, William Dudeck, Richard Ray, Rod Orth, Leroy Meyers, Mike Kuczborski

Call to Order: by Rob Smilowitz at 7:17 pm
Approval of Minutes from 9/4/14 Meeting

Open discussion –
A. Louis Cohen spoke openly regarding communications accusing him of manipulation of votes. All agreed this did not occur and those in attendance agreed that the for the benefit of all members we should move past this.
B. Rich Morello – discussed benefit on October 11 for former member of MTBSA Cheryl west – will send information on details for – Jeff Adams suggested sunshine fund – make available the website to send along the information. Mr. Morello publically thanked all those unsuccessful in their run for office for their service to MTBSA
C. Fall Ball – travel at older age groups for fall ball. Whitpain and Towamencin fields have a home run fence – could line fence. Jeff Adams reports that will not happen due to the township – fences do not keep flow of park – township has been unwilling to this point to allow the fences. Potentially discuss in spring
D. Joe Romanowski stated he is unable to begin serving in elected role of Vice President of Softball as he requires prior approval to serve on a board from his employer. He is a licensed broker and has compliance requirements as a result. He will inform the board when this requirement is met.
E. Montgomery Basketball Association (MBA) registration – ongoing – coming to close on October 8. Asked if MTBSA could inform members about registration. All in attendance agreed to this request.
F. Newly elected President Brian Ferko offered support and thanks for the many years of service provided outgoing executive board members
VP of Finance/Treasurer Report (Tony Lauerman) –
A. MTBSA is roughly in the same financial position we were in 2013 at this time.
B. Executive Board should re visit budget and discuss higher registration fees as our costs are fixed yet we are generating less revenue due to declining registration numbers.
C. MTBSA is looking for volunteers for the Treasurer role. Anyone with qualified nominees are encouraged to contact the Executive Board.
D. Trailer sold to Jeff Adams landscape company – title could not be found – trailer returned to MTBSA
E. Connie Mack Umpire payment has not yet been made – MTBSA to send fees to them.
F. Member Keith Heilveil asked if MTBSA fees are in line with other townships – VP of Finance Tony Lauerman responded that we are roughly in line with them – albeit MTBSA has not conducted an exhaustive search.
G. Current Fees for year 2014 – $150 for Connie Mack Division $100 for all other divisions.
Member Rich Morello – reported that other Connie Mack leagues in the area charge upward of $200 per member – MTBSA would need to verify this information.
VP Baseball Report (Louis Cohen)
A. Fall Ball – many volunteers have put the league on the map – thank you to those folks who have helped with that beginning with Commissioner Mike Kuczborski
B. Issues with umpires – some coaches have been upset with no umpires at their games.
a. 25 dollars a game for fall ball for umpires – using in house MTBSA umpires. Costs for outsided umpires would be $50 per game
b. Home team is picking up cost of umpires.
C. Keith Heilveil running Connie Mack fall ball – reported some concerns regarding playing time for the boys.

A. Fall ball going well
B. Looking at Travel –need to find new venue for indoor training as Montco gym being refurbished this winter
C. Shed at Rose Twig fields continues as an ongoing project
VP Administration (Rob Smilowitz)
A. Transitioning to new board members will begin over the next week.
B. Registration and uniform ordering upcoming

A. Newly elected Executive Board thanked all outgoing members for their efforts over their tenures.
B. Connie Mack Commissioner Kevin Donovan expressed his thanks to Rick, Louis, Jeff, Rob for their long time efforts for the good of the league. Kevin offered to serve in whatever capacity is needed
C. Boys baseball Major Division Commissioner Rob Garbaccio expressed his thanks to all those board members ending their tenure this evening.
Move to adjourn by Rob Garbaccio, second by Tony Lauerman – meeting adjourned at 800 PM.
Next Meeting Scheduled for Thursday November 6, 2014 7PM location TBD.
