Please note that parents or guardians will need to provide transportation for their student after their event and pick up their child at the Bartlett High School auditorium at the conclusion of the 6:30p.m. concert. (The students will not return to the middle schools on Tuesday after our departure.) During the day, students will be rehearsing 4 songs to perform at the concert that night and a 8th grade jazz band and drumline will also perform. The Bartlett High School Band Boosters will be providing lunch (pizza) and dinner for all eighth grade band students. During the day, the band students will also have the opportunity to meet about their high school 4-year plan and hear performances from the 9th Grade Band and the High School Band. There will be time for the students to change in their concert attire after dinner and prior to our warm-up for the concert. This is a wonderful experience and privilege for all 100+ middle school band students involved.

The students will need to meet in the band room Tuesday, January 24thpromptly at 8:45 am. already dressed in the band t-shirts or another Appling spirit shirt. Students will also need to bring their concert attire including white shirt (boys bring a tie), black bottoms, black shoes (and black socks if you wear socks) to wear for the concert that evening at Bartlett High School. Upon the students’ arrival, we willmake sure that all students have their instruments, instrument accessories, music, pencil, and all concert attire. Students will take all of these supplies on the bus with them to the high school. We plan to load the bus at 8:50 a.m. and depart for Bartlett High School arriving by 9:15a.m. Students will remain at Bartlett High School the entire day until after the concert that evening when parents or guardians will provide transportation home for the students. Prior to the field trip, we encourage all students to label each piece of their concert uniform with their first and last name (in a place that will not show) so that they do not get any uniform parts mixed up when they change for the concert. Please remember that students should have the following items with them prior to departure from the middle schools:

-Band Instrument with your student’s first and last names labeled on the outside of the case

-Instrument accessories (extra reeds, valve oil, cork grease, rotor oil, etc.)

-Honor Band Music (4 pieces) or Jazz music (3 pieces)

-Pencil

-Concert Attire – as appropriate and required of each student for your middle school band performances (some items may not be applicable depending on your individual band’s concert attire)

  • White Shirt (and tie for boys)
  • Black bottoms (pants or skirt)
  • Black dress shoes (and black socks if you wear socks)

-Students should wear their band t-shirts or Appling spirit shirts in the morning to meet in the band room.

Plans are to leave the middle school at 8:50a.m. and parents or guardians will pick up the students from the high school at the conclusion of the 6:30p.m. concert. Students must be prepared with their music, instrument, instrument accessories, and concert attire for the field trip. The high school bandsareproviding the meals and the middle schools are covering the fees for their own bus, so students will not need money for the field trip. Also, during the field trip, students will need to have their cell phones turned off and in their bags or cases during the day’s festivities.

As a school requirement, we need your written permission for you child to attend this event with the middle school band. Please sign the second page of this form and return it to Mrs. Sanders no later than Friday, January 20th or your child will not be permitted to travel with the band to the Bartlett City Schools Eighth Grade Honor Band. Mrs. Sanders has posted Smart Music assignments and will post recordings of these songs on the band webpage so please use this as a tool. This will be a great experience for your student!
