Farming technologies

  1. The General Assembly calls on the United Nationsto concentrate on improving the agricultural methods, farming technology and agricultural training in rural areas most affected by poverty.

a)The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) must increase spending on education and research in productive farming methods.

b)The United Nations will ensure that the FAO increases spending on research into Genetically Modified (GM) crops.

Food waste

  1. The amount of food wastage created by some of the most economically developed countries is excessive and unacceptable in the current food crisis.

a)Each country to have a limit on amount of waste they produce.

b)If a country feels they will exceed their allotted limit, they may purchase permits from countries that do not need all of their allotted tonnage. Therefore the countries that do not waste as much food generate profits from selling these permits to more economically developed countries.

Redevelopment of agriculture in former war zones.

  1. The United Nations calls on developed nations involved in recent wars to provide aid to finance the redevelopment of agricultural infrastructure damaged in the conflict.

a)Furthermore, for the relaxation of trade regulations by developed countries

Land

  1. a) The international community will introduce a ban on the purchase of agricultural land in developing countries by banks, hedge funds and other speculative foreign investors.

b) The UN will establish a committee for the preservation of access to agricultural land. This which will work to prevent deforestation and protect fertile areas and small farms against land grabs. The committee will also provide agricultural technology and training in rural areas affected by poverty, desertification and exploitation.

Tax

  1. The General Assembly calls on countries to ensure that multinational companies improve their transparency and will introduce measures to prevent companies from avoiding paying taxes. A system of fining countries will be introduced to prevent companies avoiding paying their taxes.
