SPOTLIGHT

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 have been learning all about 'What makes the Earth angry' this half term. We have learned about different natural disasters, why they are caused and the devastating human and natural effects they can have. We have carried our topic into literacy where we have written news reports on the recent events in Haiti and poems about natural disasters!

Next term, we are learning all about the legacies left behind by the Ancient Greeks. To make a WOW start to our topic we will be holding our own Olympic games as a phase. We are currently working on the organisation of some special guests to our games with appearances from real-life Olympians in the pipeline.

In Year 5/6, we are now setting weekly writing challenges on our blog. There have been some very impressive entries so far. The children love to receive comments on their work so please feel free to visit our blogsite uks22016.barlowhallblogs.net and leave some feedback for the children.

Time Capsule Competition

Congratulations to Mirza and Zac who represented Barlow Hall at a celebration event in St Peter's Square to mark the burial of a time capsule. Only four schools across Manchester were selected to attend the event following a drawing competition in which Barlow Hall Children were one of the winning entries. Our artwork was used to inspire the design of an engraved paving slab which marks the location of the buried time capsule.
