Responsible to:Sports Centre Manager/Sports Centre Duty Manager

You will be required to have full commitment to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

Purpose of Job

General assistance within Leytonstone Community Sports Centre.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team, or independently as the situation demands, to support other team members and provide cover as required
  • Dealing with members of the public as and when required i.e – customer complaints, guidance and advise
  • Security and safety of public users during activity use
  • Porterage – the work may require the carrying of supplies and goods etc
  • Spot cleaning duties i.e – waste bins, spillages, litter in/around the centre, crockery/cutlery etc
  • Minor repairs as required
  • Equipment changeovers, storage and care of the equipment
  • Assist in areas of the centres activities as required
  • To work shifts on a rota basis, to include evenings and weekends
  • Ability to organise and run courses on the behalf of the Centre
  • To attend training courses to gain coaching and teaching qualifications in certain sports
  • To undertake any training and development activity as required for efficient service delivery take the appropriate level of responsibility for Health & Safety in general
  • To understand the LBWF’s commitment to Equal Opportunities and apply it when undertaking duties
  • Contribute to the Service Area’s Business Plan by working with colleagues to achieve service
  • Fundamental to fulfilling the responsibilities of this post is the ability to respond flexibly, positively and successfully to the ever changing pressures which local authorities face.
  • Sell/give advice on membership and courses run by the Centre
  • Telephone system operation including message recall and telephone payments
  • End of shift cleaning duties and security duties
  • Any other duties that may be deemed necessary for the post

To be alert to issues of safeguarding child protection ensuring that the welfare and safety of children attending Leytonstone School is promoted and safeguarded and to report any child protection concerns to the designated Child Protection Officer using safeguarding policies, procedures and practice.

Prevent, identify and minimise risk of interpersonal abuse or violence, safeguarding children and other vulnerable people, initiating the management of cases involving actual or potential abuse or violence where needed.

Be aware of and update colleagues, as appropriate to comply with current legislation and policies affecting practice, e.g Children’s Act, National Service Frameworks, Child Protection Procedures, Health and Safety and Data Protection.

Within the changing demands the leisure industry places upon providers, this job description will be periodically be reviewed with the postholder.

Experience

  • Of working within a reception role
  • Of working within a sales role

  • Able to provide additional coverwhen required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (ESSENTIAL)

  • A commitment to ongoing personal development and willingness to undertake appropriate training.
