Attention all Bantam Players who are interested in being considered for the Bantam Development Stream (DS) program. This year the Oakville Hornets are running 2 sessions leading up to the selection of 1 Bantam DS teams. Each player should attend both sessions. Each session will cost $10.00 (cash or cheque) per player to be collected at the rink on the day of the development sessions. Registration will occur by phoning the Hornets office (905) 337-8800 or email at to select the sessions that you wish to attend. Each session will have a cut off at 30 players and 4 goalies. The Bantam DS Coach is Bill Vander Doelan.

The Session dates are the following,

Friday October 16th Canlan Ice Sports 8:30pm

Friday October 30th Canlan Ice Sports 8:30pm

The DS program and teams are meant to provide additional opportunities for players to enhance their hockey skills, learn teamwork and improve confidence through a “second season” that runs from approximately December 1 to Easter each hockey season. Some DS players will move on to Rep teams but this is not necessarily the focus or goal of the DS program or any DS teams. In addition, the focus of DS teams in their games and tournaments is not necessarily on winning, but instead on overall player skill development and the introduction of basic hockey systems/plays. As a result, DS teams are required to follow the Hornets fair play policies and provide equal development opportunities to all team members. The entire Hornets organization from House League to DS to Rep benefits from our DS program.

Each DS team will consist of up to 20 players, including up to 2 goaltenders. All 20 players will be involved in all practises and team functions with 17 players identified by the coach as starters with 3 players designated as substitute players. These substitute players will fill in when one of the starters has to miss a game. The substitutes will be charged $200.00 for the DS season while the starters will be charged the full amount.

The final selection of the players for the DS teams will be the responsibility of the DS Coaches and Hornets’ representatives. DS Assistant Coaches will be chosen after the team has been drafted.

DS players should expect and be able to commit too:

• Up to 8 practices and 8 exhibition games;

• 3 tournaments, typically; o During Christmas break; During March break; and after the normal house league is completed (ie. Easter weekend).

• An extra hour or two of hockey practices or games per week (traditionally held on weekends,

though there may be mid-week times in 2015-16);

• Financial commitment of approximately $400-$600 to provide for:

• All practice and exhibition ice times;

• All tournament fees;

• Referee and time keeper fees;

• Jerseys;

• Any other team fees

DS players are allowed to be Affiliate Players on Rep teams.

DS teams must schedule their practices and games in time blocks that do not conflict with DS players’ commitments to the HL teams.
