Baker Hughes Incorporated is currently looking for an experienced metallurgical engineer in Houston, TX, to provide metallurgical support for downhole equipment and services used in upstream oil and gas production.
Typical Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to a broad range of people including internal engineering, manufacturing, and field operations, as well as customers and suppliers. These people will have a broad range of technical experience.
  • Develop and maintain internal specifications for metallic raw materials, heat treatment, surface treatments and welding to assure compliance with applicable industry standards and best practices.
  • Perform failure analysis on a wide variety of products and alloys and produce technically accurate and persuasive reports.
  • Provide material recommendations for research and new product development projects.
  • Coordinate qualification testing of corrosive service materials and surface treatments needed for High Pressure/High Temperature downhole oil and gas production environments.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Science or equivalent discipline.
  • Candidate must have direct experience with materials specification for a wide range of metals with preference for cast irons, steels, stainless steels and nickel alloys.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical processing, fabrication, mechanical testing and corrosion testing.
  • Experience in performing failure analysis and writingreports.
  • Ability to effectively communicate highly technical information both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge with applicable industry standards such as API, NACE, ISO, ASME Sec. IX.
  • Candidates should be self-motivated and focused on achieving business results through a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Job experience with oil field equipment manufacturer and/or service provider.
  • Masters/PhD in metallurgical engineering, material science, or related field.
  • Oil and Gas upstream production corrosion metallurgy experience.

Training opportunities exist for various engineering subjects, product training, management, and other applicable topics. Some infrequent domestic and international travel may be required to conferences,suppliers, field offices, and manufacturing locations.
