Lesson title: family members and describing them

Step 1—Desired Results
By the end of this lesson students will be able to
1-  Be familiar with the family members father side and mother side
2-  Learn ajectives to describe people in male and female
3-  Be familiar with the cultural differences between the Arabic and the American family
4-  Write the names of their family members in Arabic
5-  Describe the family members from all aspects age, body shape, skin color, hair color and eye color
6-  Draw their own family tree
7-  Speak about their own family and describe some of the family members
Step 2—Assessment Evidence
-Students will be able to draw their own family tree with description of their family members from all aspects age,bodyshape,skin color, hair color and eye color
-students will be able to give a presentation about their family tree describing at least five people
Students will be able to use adjectives with males and females
Step 3—Learning Plan
Task1 Discussion : Cultural differences between American and Arabian family (5 minutes)
I will give the students a brief idea about the idea of the big family in the Arab league and ask them to comment and do comparison with the American family
Task2 Eliciting vocabulary : Arabian family tree ( 10 minutes )
Students will be given a chart of the family members in Arabic to elicit from them the new words via questions such as: What's grandfather/grand mother / father /mother/brother /sister/son/daughter in Arabic ?
How many words can we get for the word aunt in Arabic? What are they?
How many words can we get for the word cousin in Arabic?
Students will be asked to guess the eight words for cousins/nephew /niece in Arabic
What is uncle/aunt /son /daughter in Arabic ? can you guess what are the words for cousin in Arabic?
How many words do we have for nephew and neice in Arabic?what are they?
Task 3 Eliciting grammar rule : male and female Adjectives (10minutes)
Students will be given a chart of adjectives in English and Arabic in male and female to discover the rule
Task4Guided practice :snake game (10minutes)
Students will be given a dice,buttons and a snake diagram with English words about family members and adjectives . Each time a student roll the dice and takes steps on the snake diagram with the button but he/she will not win the steps unless he says the word in Arabic .if he/she couldn’t he/she will go back to the previous place till we get a winner who finishes the snake diagram the first
Task5 free practice : Draw your family tree exected to be done as homework
Students will be asked to design their own family treein Arabic with description of at least six members of their family from all aspects like age,body shape and skin ,eyes and hair colour
Task six prepation for the coming lesson: presentation of your family tree (assessment)
Students will be told that the next day their assessment will be a presentation of their family tree and they will describe at least six members of their family
Step 4—Reflection
After teaching the lesson and the assessment the next day students not only met my expectations but also gained my admiration and I told them that I am proud of them all because every one gave a wonderful 15 minutes presentation about their family and described more than six members of the family and also they wrote the names in Arabic and this showed good skill in writing
