▪ Short stories, expository articles, poetry, grammar, vocabulary, composition, independent reading, presentations, novels: Lord of the Flies (Golding), Catcher in the Rye (Salinger), Macbeth (Shakespeare), and 1984 (Orwell).

III. GRADES

▪ Academic work will be determined on a point basis: homework, class work, quizzes, tests, essays, projects, and presentations. Grades will be based on the percentage of total possible points earned:

A 90% - 100% B 80% - 89.9% C 70% - 79.9% D 60% - 69.9%

▪ Citizenship grades will reflect the quality of work habits, classroom behavior, participation, organization, and attitude.

IV. ASSIGNMENT PROCEDURES

  • I do not accept late work for full credit unless there is a major problem (death in family, serious illness, etc.) or an excused absence. All excuses must be verified by a parent or guardian. If a paper is turned in one day late, only half credit will be given. I do not accept papers that are two or more days late.
  • For each day of absence, you have that many days to complete an assignment that was due during your absence.
  • Writing must reflect your original thoughts. Any plagiarism will result in “0” points on that assignment. Review rules for citing ideas or words that are not your own.
  • If absent, call a classmate to ask about what you missed and what is due.

V. TEST PROCEDURES

  • If absent on day of a test, discuss makeup arrangements with the teacher.
  • Improper test procedures will result in “0” points on the quiz, test, or written exam. Improper procedures involve unauthorized note sheets, copying someone else’s work, giving students extra points on quizzes by not marking answers wrong...
